Climate Control Horrors

So I'm 500 miles from home at the moment and I just went to go get some stuff from the store and the climate control system started doing something really funky. The fans were cutting in and out every 10 seconds or so, regardless of whether the A/C was on or not. The climate control lights aren't flashing or anything, so I can't really pull any codes from it. This has never happened before...

Another thing, after the A/C has been running for a while, and I take a turn, water spills out all over the passenger floorboard. I cleaned out the drainpipe that runs from some plastic tank in the middle of the dash, down low. That seemed to fix things for about a day, but that's it. Any quick ideas I can try so as to make the trip home less crappy? Thanks in advance.

Which fans are you referring to?

If its the cabin blower then it could be a bad fuse, bad climate control module, or the blower motor overheats (needs replacement).

If its the radiator fan up front then it could be a bad temperature sensor.

The drain pipe going from the A/C evaporator housing is clogged. Get a flexible wire or the pointy end of a looong zip-tie and jam it up the tube a couple of times. You need to keep cleaning it until all the dirt in there flows out (might be a few days). I had this happen in another car, not fun going around a turn and having freezing water splash on you foot.

If the blower motor is overheating, have you replaced the cabin filter lately?? They get clogged up real fast in the spring with all of the tree pollen.

The AC drain is not easy to get to, are you sure that is the one you cleaned out and not the heater drain? The AC drain is on the passenger side.

Cabin filter was replaced about 1.5k miles ago. Yeah, the drain I cleared out was in the dead center of the car.... not over to one side. But when I cleared it out, a whole bunch of water came running out of the hose, maybe 4 or 5 oz. worth of water.

Mechanic says the blower motor and/or resistor are likely to blame. The blower has never made any nasty noises, so I don't really suspect the fan itself. Is all of this equipment the same on the S70? I might try swapping some stuff over to figure out exactly what it is.

I'm back in TX for a few weeks now... 500 miles with the windows cracked was no fun.

There is a third possibility, the AC relay mounted above the fan relay may be over heating. Try putting the fan speed on high, and if the blower still turns off after a few minutes, that may be your problem. Some here and on other boards have mentioned that the plug on the AC relay gets real nasty. The AC relay controls the entire AC operation.
