jonsayre
I am in the final stages of my long lost volvo project and want to delete the charcoal canister. I know this question has been brought up before but how do you do it? I tried a search with no luck. I have a 99 S-70 GLT. Any HELP is appreciated. Thanks! BlackT5
Are you using a stand alone ecu?I left mine connected to the purge valve, but the purge valve is disconnected from the electrical sensor and vacuum lines to the intake.
CAPT_BLOTTO
why would you want to delete it?
BlackT5
i'm assuming he's using a stand alone so unless you setup the ecu to purge, you gotta decide what you want to do with it.Some people remove the canister and vent the tank, some just vent the canister line open under the car. jonsayre
The reason I want to delete it is because it is full of sooty oil residue, the previous owner must not have done oil changes the turbo got cooked and I beleive the oil was coking (I beleive that is the right term) essentially cooking and becoming thick and pasty. I am not running stand alone just want to delete this thing that seems useless to me. There is a large port on the side of the block and another just above it on the side of the block they both run into the canister, can I simply plug them both or loop them together. Then do the same with all the other hoses on top of the canister? I really appreciate the help, I will post pics as soon as I figure out how to. BlackT5
lol. You're referring to the PCV system. Just replace the box with a new one or clean it out. You can also look into installing a catch can.

You should look into replacing all of the components. FCP Groton (www.fcpgroton.com) sells a PCV kit for our cars. There is also tons of info on this site on how to replace this yourself.
