You access the torque converter bolts by removing the starter reach through the opening and rotate the crank around and remove each bolt. I think there were 6 on mine and they were torx bolts. Like t-30 or something kinda small. You will have to get the starter out to get to them. No other way that I am aware of. I replaced both halfshaft seals and while working on the passenger side saw that particular opening. You can see it in this photo of the old seal.
