why ? and what are you doing ?

go indepth alittle more and I can tell you exactly what you need.

but quick guess is install aftermaket head with four RCA outputs and run wire to amp and run wires from amp back to headunit

those wires connect to speaker wires behind headunit and done

you'll have the speaker wires from the HU running into the stock amp, and then the stock amp will have output wires to the speakers. so when you find the stock amp, you can just remove it and connect the speaker wires together. as for what colors the speaker wires are... i have no idea! ohm testers or a 9v battery will do the trick, just make sure you have the polarity correct or your speakers will be out of phase - no good.

i'm 99.99999999999999% sure that the plug coming out of the nethers of the car going into the amp is the same as the one on the back of the HU... IE, you can unplug from the amp, and plug into a regular 850 / S70 wiring harness to avoid nasty cutting and fishing. They do this to keep all the wiring the same between the different trim packages - just plug into an amp, or plug into a HU, and that's it.

However, unless you have a really kick ALL GLORY TO THE HYPNOTOAD HU that has an external amp, or are running external amps, you might have better results from using a RCA -> DIN6 adapter like mentiond above, and sticking with the stock amp. It's 25x4 RMS, and very few if any HU's can claim that.

Golfing  with a customer .

Tuesday and wednesday are shot but the rest of the week is open :)

its very very very very simple to do

also why do you want to bypass the factory amp ? and are you sure you just dont have a regular stock headunit with the amp built in ?

and the problem with that is ????

the only way your going to get base to your door speakers is

1. Replace them with new ones

2. Install a 4 channel amp

3. Install a 2 amp wire kit

4. RCA from the front to both amps

5. run speaker wire from the amp to the headunit

6. take the speaker wire and tie it into the factory wiring.

done :)

I am doing that exact same thing right now on the R

See my previous post. If you don't want use the amp, simply unplug the cable going into it, and plug it into your regular "wiring harness", and you're done.

R's, Yellows, and Platinums should have the amp, for the 850s. But exactly - why bypass it?

+1 this will work. The doors connect to the car with a "plug" so you can't fish more wires through it. If you don't use the stock wiring, your only option is to run your own wire looms to the door, which has little benefit and is a PITA.

If you want to take away the bass, either purchase a "bass blocker", a pre-amp external crossover or filter, an aftermarket amp with a highpass filter, or a HU with an EQ. Assuming the EQ on the HU is even halfway decent, you should be able to apply the same settings to the RCA out as on it's internal amp, meaning you could still reduce the bass while using the 850's amp... just hook your sub up to a different RCA output (either your rear, or a dedicated sub output) which doesn't have reduced bass and you're good to go.

I hope you mean plug into the harness at the amp that goes out to the speakers, and not the harness up at the stereo (which goes into the amp - which you would've just unplugged)

Because all aftermarket stereos have their own internal amps, and you can't run signal through two amps and get something good to come out the other side (if at all).

The easiest way to go is to use a harness to plug into the stock stereo plug; unplug both hanesses at the amp, and connect the speaker wires from those amp harnesses.

Yes, it will take a while.

I think I made it pretty obvious which one I was referring to. I don't think that 1-wire "harness" for the speed volume control really qualifies... In case it wasn't crystal clear, "the cable with more than 1 wire, that's attached to your car (goes TO your speakers)"

R's, Yellows, and Platinums should have the amp, for the 850s. But exactly - why bypass it?

However, unless you have a really kick jerk HU that has an external amp, or are running external amps, you might have better results from using a RCA -> DIN6 adapter like mentiond above, and sticking with the stock amp. It's 25x4 RMS, and very few if any HU's can claim that.

I do hope you're not serious with the "run two amps in tandem" point... I thought it was pretty clear we're talking about the RCA pre-amp outputs, which virtually any aftermarket HU made in the last 10 years has. Secondly, yes, you could connect two amps in tandem, this is where a "line level converter" figures in. But yes it sounds like jerk and is a bad idea.

Also, it's not "all" aftermarket stereos.. I know there are some models out there which require external amps, but yes, the vast majority of them do have one.

Lastly, (let me repeat myself) it makes sense to run the stock 850 amp unless you have a HU above 25 RMS (which I think some double-dins do, but most of them are 16 or 18), as it will be more powerful than the HU you use to bypass it. Purchase or make a RCA to DIN6 adapter, and plug the stock amp into the RCA plugs on your new HU, and call it a day. I don't see how that's any more difficult than bypassing the amp, unless $20 or however much (slater I think) charges is too much of a capital investment. It's probably actually easier, not that either task is especially difficult. Now, if one were having problems with the stock (now over 10 years old) stock amp, bypassing it might be much more enticing.
