Are you sure about the about link to the Dex-Cool coolant? This is normally orange colored and not the right coolant for Volvo rads.

I think you wanted to refer to this one

which is normally clear colored or light amber. This is suitable for Volvo rads and what some members here use. I used this once before but went back to Volvo coolant.

Once I replaced Volvo overpriced coolant with DEX-COOL type (I think it was Prestone). But after getting coolant smell in the cabin for few seconds every time AC started I went back to Volvo coolant and the smell went away. And I've stayed with Volvo coolant ever since.

no!

the color of coolant depends only on what color they put into it. It all starts out clear. It used to be that certain chemistries were a certain color, that was the reason for the coloring. But that is not followed any more.

If you really think it might be water, put your fingertip in the reservoir (when it is cool!) and taste it. If it is coolant it will be sickly sweet.

I use Zerex G-05 coolant. It is clear. It works great.

So I just spent almost $800 on a brand new OEM radiator, thermostat, thermostat housing, new coolant lines and labor on my car. A little bitter

Good lord, did you take it to a dealership?

Mine installed cost less then 600 for OEM
