Engine Life Expectancy

I own a 1998 S70 with 165,000 miles. I've owned it since new, used only Mobil 1 and changed the oil every 5K. The engine is still running strong and doesn't burn or leak any oil. Anyone out there with a real high milage FWD. I'm trying to get an idea of what I can expect for engine life.

I'm at 146,000 miles on my T5 with Mobil-1 every 5000 miles since new and it still uses no oil. My '83 Saab made it to nearly 300,000 on Castrol dino-juice before I lost sight of it, and the engine had never been apart. So, really, my answer is "it depends". I'd guesstimate the odds are my engine will die because it overheats or the timing belt crashes before the bottom end actually wears out.

150,000 miles on my 99 S70 - runs like a dream. Only burns oil (quart per 3000 miles) if I drive sustained, very long 65 mph trips, which I understand from Volvo is quite normal, regardless of mileage. I change oil faithfully every 5K with regular oil and do normal maintenance on schedule.

I had a 96 850 t5 wagon I got a bad cylinder in the engine at 246k . Replaced with 98 2.5t at 70k Really, for engine life, it depends on your maintenance and driving habits.

Yes even the Turbos are fine for high mileage because they are built so well and under boosted (is that a word). I have 160,000 miles on my 2.3 T and it has full boost and strong as ever, when I bought it with 140k on it the engine was in poor shape, gave it a major tune-up and it runs like a champ.

My 1998 S70 just turned 105k. I have been using mobil 1 for the last 30K miles. The car runs mint. I still get compliments about how comfortable and nice it runs and rides. I took a trip in my friends 2000 Honda Accord and it felt 10 years older than my can. It also only had 75k on it.

I am happy. Its a great car.
