I Don't Trust My Dealer Anymore

My local Volvo dealer also sells and services Buicks. Years ago when I had a Buick, they mis-diagnosed an engine problem as a bad ECM. I replaced it and it didn't solve anything.

When I bought my '99 S70 from them, they said it passed a rigorous safety inspection prior to going on the lot. Upon delivery of it I noticed a torn and leaking CV boot and a leaking power steering pump. I asked how these things could have been missed on a "rigorous" safety inspection and they agreed to fix both.

A couple days later, the new CV boot slipped off and was leaking again. I took it back and they told me that they had ordered the wrong part and so went to Napa and bought an aftermarket boot to put on. It turned out that the Napa book was slightly too big and didn't fit right. They didn't bother telling me that it wasn't a Volvo boot until I brought the car back, and forced them to order a Volvo boot and fix it right this time, which they finally did.

I inquired about replacing the heater core and the tech (that replaced my boot twice) told me that then entire dash board had to come out and the steering column would need to be removed to access the heater core. I turned around and walked out the door because I knew that wasn't the case.

The same tech answered a call from me about an alarm issue. I told him I didn't think I had an alarm, but I had a module under my dash. I told him I have the LED on the dash and a panic button on my remote, and he said I definately have an alarm, being the car is a '99, and that there's an internal problem with it. They set me up with an appointment to have it diagnosed for $40. Right before my appointment I called Volvo directly and asked them to look up my vin to see if my car has an alarm. They said no, since the car is a base model and it was optional equipment, my car was not equipped with it.

I don't know how people that service these cars every day can be so incompetent and dishonest!
