Trying To Understand The Rip Kit

OK, so my turbo was leaking oil pretty bad, and I bought one from Pras to replace it. Now that everything is apart, and ~50% of my turbo & intercooler hoses are oil soaked, I'm thinking it's a great time to do Samcos.

To buy both Samco kits, for the turbo and for the intercooler, it's going to cost $350-$400 from what I've seen. I can get IPD's RIP kit for the same price, but it doesn't look nearly as involved. Does anyone know if the RIP kit is intended to replace the entire turbo/intercooler hose system?

All I can find out from the websites is the RIP kit is a "rerouting", and the Samco stock replacement kits say "not for use with vehicles that have RIP kits installed." Someone put this puzzle together for me.

There should just be one "kit" for the Samco's. Its relatively easy for the average person too.

Talk to JHEIII874T5M He's a vendor for Samcos and I believe he can do them for $185.

A RIP kit redoes the entire charge pipe setup to push the air around the car in the opposite direction, claiming power gains. The general consensus here is that it doesn't do much, and Chuck says he saw a 10hp loss. You can only have one or the other, RIP kit, or regular. You do not need, nor can you have, both.

This will replace all of your stock boost hoses with silicone.

While you've got the car apart, couldn't hurt to do silicone vacuum hoses too. StylinMotors does an excellent vacuum hose kit and gives VS members 10% off.

Do NOT get the RIP kit. It is supposed to shorten/re-route the intercooler piping but it is purely a cosmetic mod. In fact, many members have noted a loss with the RIP kits, so I would stay away.

Intercooler hoses and Vac lines will NOT cost nearly that much money.

A company called stylin motors (www.stylinmotors.com) makes a silicone vac hose kit for our cars. It is ~$50 shipped and it comes with enough hose to replace all of the vac lines. First buy that.

Next, send a PM to member "JHEIII874T5M" He is a distributor for Samco and can get you hoses for ~$190 shipped. That brings your total to around $240 for everything including shipping.

There are also plenty of diagrams on VS to help you with replacing all of these lines, and tons of members who are willing to help if you have any questions.

Good luck! :)

See? That's why I come here, VS is great! I'm glad you pointed out the silicone vacuum hoses, because I had to cut 3 of them just to get them off. I'll PM the Samco guy, but really, there two kits, one for the turbo, the other for coolant, which maybe just for actual coolant, not the intercooler like I mis-stated earlier.

Thanks for your help, I haven't driven the wag in nearly 3 weeks now, the Geo's getting old...

I would tell you to wait on the samco COOLANT hoses...They are really cosmetic if you ask me. Plus the lower coolant hose has the tendency to rub against another line in the car and can eventually start leaking. Some members have had this happen to them.

Right now just stick with the intercooler and vacuum lines :)
