sizzource
No one is going to believe me about this story, but it is quite funny. If you don't want to read a story, then just skip to the second paragraph. We have a band of kids who roam my neighborhood at night in which they proceed to open people's car doors who forgot to lock them before entering their home. Its not really 'breaking' and entering, its more of just, entering. Well, they entered into my old Grand Marquis and stole my iPod then they went to the Volvo, where a $20 was laying in plain site, and proceeded to steal the owners manual and not the $20 bill. I don't know if there is a black market for owners manuals or what, but to this day I don't understand why that $20 was laying there and my manual wasn't.How many quarts of oil does a 2000 C70 take? sizzource
So your 100% sure that 5w30 is the stuff that Volvo loads these cars with?
sizzource
I hope you are correct my man, cause I just bought 6 quarts for a whooping total of $9.56 at Walmart. Its not synthetic, but oh well, they didn't have any Walmart Synthetic on hand, just the regular 5w30. Oh, if anyone is thinking Im crazy for putting Walmart Brand oil in my C70, think again. The Walmart brand oil IS Castrol GTX and their Walmart synthetic brand oil is Castrol Syntech.Just a little secret I thought I'd share! Enjoy. Jwrape
I have a funny thing about this topic. I just bought my C70 and on the valve cover plastic is written 6.3qts in black magic market. I am thinking the previous owner wrote that on there. I was trying to figure out what that meant for the longest time.

timish
So your 100% sure that 5w30 is the stuff that Volvo loads these cars with?5W/30 is FINE!!Change it in 3000 miles since it's not synthetic.
sizzource
I have about 10 quarts of 10w30 sythetic from a previous car that I don't use anymore. Would using 10w30 be a bad weight to use instead of 5w30?
volvo4lif3
10w30 for higher mileage cars. 10w30 is thicker, and is used in summer. 5w30 is used in winter because its thin. Using either or, or switching back and forth between weight is fine as long as your're out of warranty which you are. If a manufacturer wants to be gay, they can void your warranty for not sticking to the required oil weight if something were to go wrong. :o
2001T5
I believe your manual would tell you to use 5W-30 for normal driving, and 10W-30 for "extreme conditions" (ie towing, hills).
