Turbo Questions

HPT Turbo guys,

Would an MBC and BOV push a stock 94 Turbo (wagon) car to 300HP?

Is there a T5 badge on Turbo 850s, it seems all I see on the road is the word Turbo. I guess better question is, is 850 Turbo distinct from 850 T5 (specifically for 1994 model)? I'm under the impression that there are no 850 LPT and that 850 GLTs are NAs, is that correct?

Is 94 more close to 93 than 95 to 97 850 models in general? Is it OBD II?

Is there more difference than similarity against 1998 V70 NA in terms of parts swapability (not sure if that's a word but you know what I mean :)) for parts-swap approach to diagnosing issues?

We only have two drivers in the family and already have two vehicles, so this is a hard sell to my wife, my pitch would be the diagnostic angle, but you all know I just want a Turbo car! Price is very good at 166k. The seller could be very well a member here, but don't want to bust his chop on 300hp claim :)

So help a Turbo wannabe if you please B)

Thanks

lol, I sort of think so, but he may very well have them w/o knowing, lol. Then it would be a bargain.

Actually, I hope it's not chipped and all that, it would be very taxing to the engine I imagine (although I heard here that the 2.3 engine is rated for a higher hp), and at 160+, the engine may be 'prematurely worn'.

if it is a stock 94 with a turbo.... a MBC and a BOV will NOT make it 300hp... a chip, exhaust and a larger turbo would make it 300hp

but not just the MBC and BOV alone

if we had a member here claiming 300hp on just an MBC (which could only hit 15psi before the ECU cuts off boost) and a BOV (which doesn't even increase performance) we'd already beaten some sense into them

chipping is fine for engine as long as you take care of it

people have run 200k miles without any problem

1994-1996, 850 turbo's had the "TURBO" badge

1997 850 turbo's had the "T5" badge

LPT were made in 1997 850 with "GLT" badge

OBDII 1996, 1997 models

semi-OBDII in some 1995 models

limited parts swap with NA engines, most turbo parts are arguably better

only NA parts worthwhile is probably the NA cams, and possibly throttle body

whew

Thanks much for the info below, brother!

I know, I now see that even the AMM/MAF are different, and so are the SAS system. But don't tell my wife.

I'm thinking more on the line of parts swap if you stall, or do pro-active parts replacement.

I would be crazy to replace my fuel pump if it's working right? But even Rich did that for peace of mind. We have 112k on our V70 and it's now approaching 10 years, my wife travels a lot lately, so stalling is a concern. Me, I'm not afraid to get stalled on the road. I got spare parts & tools in my Expedition to replace coils and those are PITA parts to replace in that vehicle, depending on which cylinder f'ed up!

There are a couple of commonly known parts to stall x70s at this mileage, fuel pump & relay are concerns, alternator/regulator also comes to mind. Other parts like MAF/SAS would cause issues but otherwise, car would be drivable, I believe. I hope most other sensors are interchangeable.

So if I replace them, what to do with the replaced part? Well, it can be used as spare to the turbo car :). Do you think she will buy it :)?

Anyway, this car is being offerred for less than 2k, and I thought, hey, I'm comfortable working with Volvo's, if I can slap an R bumper and a set of Pegs to this baby, I'm gold! ;)

I don't know what I've taken today, I thought it was a cold medicine but I notice my post have a ton of smiley face on them.

Anyway, haven't seen the car, sent the seller inquiries about color and all that (Craiglist).

I'll send some pix if this materialize.

Also, buy iPhone and Macs people, let's get Apple shares back where it belongs.

and a r spoiler... we want pictures of the car in question :)
