By 'this', you mean you mean you doubt the issue is the BCS?

Surprised to learn that 94 850 Turbo is OBDII compliant. I have OBDII code reader, is the "boost regulation too high" a P0 code (that is Generic and not Volvo specific code)? Is this something that I can read or something that would require the Volvo reader.

Also, what is the stock size of 94 Turbo?

Thanks

I doubt this is the issue because Corey seemed to know his stuff, but..

You listed a bigger turbo (how much bigger?) and an MBC, but no tune? If its just a 16T then its probably not a big deal, but something larger with no tune and an MBC at 14psi could throw a code maybe?

Care to elaborate? Do you mean for maintenance?

Seems to be the same answer all the time, Stage 0.

and any other problems from bushings to tie rods, shocks, springs, struts, various leaks.

the list could go on and on.

Unless you want the car for a beater.

I considered that, but I got the impression based on my earlier inquiry that 2.3 engine (sorry, the official 'scientific' name escapes me at the moment) can take a lot of punishment and rated much higher than stock 236 ponies.

I'm now understanding that 'unregulated' boost without the necessary supports (higher flow fuel pump, better fuel injector, performance chip for engine management, modified timing) could spell trouble, but I'm getting the impression from MeanGreenSwedeMachine post that if the turbocharger is not that big, it's still okay. Also, of course, I need to believ Corey knows his stuff.

What is the worst scenario? Premature wear of the turbocharger, the engine itself, and the AT?

When I test-drive it, what should I look for?

I still want it, it's a 3rd car for a household with only two drivers.

Let's hear it Turbo guys.

Thanks

I'd pass simply because 99% chance it's been beat on.

Its fine...

The bogging down that was mentioned earlier is called fuel cut. If the ECU sees more than 1 bar (14.7psi) it will cut fuel to prevent damage to the engine. You can not run more than 1 bar without a proper tune/flash/chip.

A 16t is not that much bigger (than a stock 15g) and it only flows a few CFM more than a 15g so in reality its not even that much of an upgrade. No damage was done to the engine and no damage was done to the turbo charger through the use of an MBC. (I dont know exactly what corey did, but in the safe application of an MBC on a stock turbo the engine and the turbo will be fine)

Anyways, that is my "diagnosis" per say. I cant be certain though, because I am still new to this stuff and I can not see or drive the car...So there is a chance it could be something else.

^The car has probably been beat on. Meaning, premature wear on everything.

And stock rating is 222hp last time I checked, and the R is 240hp.

Edit: These cars have very strong trannies/motors, but if it were me, I wouldn't want a car that's been beat on, but that's just me..

Double edit: If you test drive it, I'd run it semi hard just to make sure the tranny and everything shifts right.

I hear you bro, right now, the concern is the engine due to the code currently thrown, as well as possibility of premature wear if MBC is incorrectly applied.

As for the other concerns you mentioned below, yeah, I'm comfortable w/ suspension work on this car, just rebuilt the suspension & steering of my wife's car (maybe I will steal the Bilsteins I installed for her 98 V70 NA and swap it with what's installed on Corey's car :))

Also, RMS have been replaced when 'newer' tranny was installed, I believe that's the 'holy grail' of oil leak - everything else like cam seals, axle seals, turbo leaks are DIY type of work from what I'm hearing.

It will not be a beater, but it will not be a daily driver either. It will be my little toy, use it to haul the kids from schgool once in a while and to get grocery, and beat the crap out of Hondas along the way if they so wish it :). I probably will revive my 17" Modas and steal the new drilled & slotted rotors I installed to my wife's car :). Hopefully can take care of the dent along the way. The A/C would probably stay like that.

I can picture it now...

I like all your inputs, so please keep 'em coming and thank you.

Thanks for the info, I was looking at the 98 V70 T5 hp rating, didn't realize they changed over the years.

And thanks for the tip regarding test-drive.
