So I totally got it wrong, there is no such thing then.

My bad.

Turbo newbie here (wannabe at this point in fact) .

EDIT: So you're saying there is such a thing but not for this application (850's/x70's).

16G

First time heard about that

It was never installed on Volvos?

No.

Chuck is running a 16g from a mitsubishi in his car (IIRC), and Torquesteer has a Hahn Racecraft 16g turbo in his car (both are different turbos)

There is such a thing, but there are no Volvo turbos that are 16g's.

  • 3 weeks later...

Sorry to hear that...

Cory still owes for non delivered parts. No contact despite repeated attempts. Quite a pair...

I did get the car btw and have discovered some good stuff as well as issues:

The goods:

Already mentioned about the dual cat-back exhaust (Eurosport?) & rear spoiler

Everything basically works (door locks, windows, sunroof, power mirror, power seat, lights, wipers, ABS)

At least the rear shocks are Sachs performance shocks because they are red, front are black so I don't know

MAF seems to have been replaced & newer

Fuel pump relay looks new (no paint mark from factory and looks newer)

AC may not be shot after all, looks like clutch issue and there are write-ups about how to fix

Headlight lenses have been replaced (not sure what kind - how to tell if it's e-code?)

It got third row seats which I hope to sell installed to use money for some goodies

Custom RIP kit installed and I also got the factory intercooler pipes, might consider doing SAMCO in the future and return to original intercooler piping

Both axle seals are new, and driver-side axle have been replaced (arguably the harder side to deal with)

Turbo is spooling and I can tell car is stronger than our base V70, even at this pre-stage 0 status - very promising :)

Columbas already painted charcoal gray complimenting the color and trim of the car as well as the dark tint

Not good:

dent on driver-side fender as declared

cone filter it does not have :( and factory box was re-installed

leaky oil cooler return hose (upper hose)

surprised to realize 94 Turbo did not come standard with rear sway bars

Ride is not as tight as our V70 - I know the ball-joints are shot so we'll see after replacement

'Usual' 850 rattles; shifter bulb is out and the cig-lighter is not working even after replacing fuse :(

I have done the following so far, trying to establish baseline/stage 0

- changed oil to 'cleanse' VERY dirty engine oil; cleaned pool of oil on top of engine (valve cover) and replaced oil-cap seal

- bolted MAF to box; tightened-up the tranny-to-engine bolts

- connected the dash Turbo gauge

- PCV serviced (TB, EGR & PTC nipple cleaned)

- connected PTC electrical & PCV hose (issues I raised earlier - http://img510.imageshack.us/my.php?image=p8250075iwq0.jpg)

- changed the turbo oil-return seal & gasket

- changed fuel filter (badly clogged)

- replaced top engine mount (torque rod) with FCP Uro cheapo, installed slightly angled using DIY tools from Matthews Volvo write-up

- replaced ignition wires with oem Bougicord

- tail gate shocks replaced with Scantech FCP eBay auction ($37 something/pair - beat that!)

- flushed ATF (very dark) with Mobil 1 ATF; replaced leaky IAC elbow

- dup key made for $27 @ dealer

- hard-wired MP3 player input to SC-813 x70 factory radio (done this earlier to our V70's SC-613 and the write-up I made applies to SC-813)

To do:

- re-wire the 98 Tranny speedometer ABS tap

- clear corners because with new headlight lenses, they kind of look funny

- x70 steering wheel - apparently drop-in replacement

- tailgate rattle repair

- replace control arms

- replace leaky oil cooler return-hose

- seafoam/pan drop - sump-pump o-rings et. al.

- replace worn front brakes

- fix AC clutch (hope this is the issue)

- change coolant with new 87 thermostat & CTS, as well as new hoses & use improve t-stat bolts

- compression test and decide if it's worth sinking more money on this for performance upgrade
