USMC850T
I wound up not going this year but my friends are down there right now. They called me about 2 hours ago and said a nasty thunderstorm went through the fairgrounds and it had winds strong enough to pick up the massive tents which cover the nicest cars and vendor displays, throwing them across the fairgrounds. My buddy said the tent which covered the '57 survivors (1957) completely collapsed directly on top of all the cars, some of them totally destroyed. Same with a lot of the other show cars down there. Also, most of the vendor tents were tossed around leaving intakes, rims, exhaust + shit everywhere. He said it looks like new orleans with all the shit scattered across the grounds. I'll post up the pics he sent me on my cell soon. I cant help but feel bad for the guys who own those things! Some of them are original owners too. Volvo Virgin
totally destroyed from a tent collapsing? I've seen the tents they use, DOUBT IT.I would agree with the "totally destroyed" thing being a bit overstated, but at the same time if these were true survivor cars with all original paint, glass, etc. even the smallest damage could be very, very detremental to the value of the car if it causes the car to lose the NCRS survivor classification. As far as the tents go they aren't all that heavy but they are structurally very rigid. I had one of those homeowner party tents get caught in a gust of wind during a very strong freak rainstorm at a party I had a couple years back. One of the legs of the tent ended up puncturing right thru my neighbor's T-111 siding on his shed. I'm thinking 50 year old fiberglas and window glass, not even mentioning paint, wouldn't hold up any better.
MrWinkey
Well we did have one hell of a storm roll through here last night about 7pm. Hail, 60mph winds and yes there were people injured from flying debris at the fairgrounds and a tree did fall on a vette and injured the driver but that was outside the fairgrounds. I'm going by this mornings newspaper. It stated nothing about the older vettes though?
