Yet Another P0014 Code Problem

:( First night on this forum, good stuff. Read all the topics on P0014 code and it looks lke I'm in for a long haul (or an expensive one) My sons 2000 S40, about 85K miles, not significant oil sludg build up I can see from oil cap. Purchased from dealer 8 months or so ago, dealer maintained. Using Mobil 1 5W-30 synthetic with OEM filter. Change every 3-5K miles. Does not exhibit the hard warm start problem mentioned in the various threads. Code appears, we reset it, goes away for a while then returns. It has repeated this sequence at least 4-5 times. Car seems to use quite a bit of oil, no apparent blue smoke from tail pipe. Idles a bit rough only when cold. I guess I could start with all the items mentioned on the forum. Clean Reset Valve, check FPR, timing belt tension, try another oil cange with a shot of Marvel Mystery oil.

Any new suggestions/developments of late??? I really hate to go the dealer route. The car went in for an inspection today after a code reset, dealer checked it with their code reader, checked ok, hooked up to New York State inspection computer and it failed, code not known as I was not there and my son forgot to ask.....aargggggggggggggggggggggggg!!!!

Any advise would be great and much appreciated. Thanks.

Have you actually cleaned the CVVT soleniod? The hot start FPR issue and the CVVT are unrelated as i have stated on the previous threads that I'm assuming you read. Bump up to a 10 /30 oil and see what flies.

Changed the oil and oil filter (spent the big $$ on the Volvo OEM filter). Matter of fact I did go from 5W-30 to 10W-30 (Castrol Synthetic Blend) hoping for a bit more oil pressure. Also cleaned the CVVT Solenoid, hooked up to 12v and cycled several times. Appears to function normally (as this is my first time looking at one). Checked all oil passages to solenoid, slight oil film, no significant sludge build-up. Reinstalled solenoid using a new gasket Installed new plugs while I was there, two of four plugs were worn (center electrode worn down with a resultant .045 gap). Started car to check oil level/leaks, CEL OFF. Turned off car, checked oil level/leaks, all ok. Started car to move, CEL now ON. Drove car for a few short trips. CEL remained ON. Car sat over the weekend, Started car on Monday, CEL now off. Had car inspected on Wednesday morning, CEL still OFF, passed inspection. Drove 15 miles to work, sat all morning, started car to go to lunch, CEL NOW BACK ON!!! I am assuming same P014 Code. Should I replace the Camshaft Position Indicator next ($176) or bite the bullet and take it in the the Volvo dealer?????
