Stupid Narrowband

My narrowband AFR (from IPD) is reading rich most of the time and will only hit the first set of green lights when cruising or deceleration...My sensor voltage seems high at anywhere from .8 to 1.5....Should my oem sensor go above 1v even if Im rich due to Ecu upgrade? I assume my AFR guage is set to measure from .0 to 1v...thus it's reading rich most of the time...Anyone? I'm thinking my 02 could also be tired and just staying in the high range..

If your O2 was totally gone, you'd know it. When mine was dead-shot, I got 8 MPG and the car smoked like a diesel for the first 10 minutes it ran.

When I was attempting my narrowband to wideband conversion, it was brought up that the narrowband in the volvo uses a .7 volt offset from chassis ground. This means the range is .7V to 1.7V. I don't know if every model has this, but it seems like what you're experiencing.

Ignoring the fact that a narrowband AFR gauge will be virtually useless, you might have some options if your narrowband gauge has a "sensor ground" wire - ie, for measuring any ground offsets. You'd connect this wire to the ground of the narrowband sensor, and it might work. If you don't have a wire of this sort, I don't suggest you connect the gauge's main ground up, as this might overload the ECU (which is what provides that .7V).

With all that said, buy yourself a wideband if you actually need AFR's for anything useful, instead of a light show.

Well I knew something was not right...the narrowband AFR meter has a power, ground and connection for signal...I don't believe it had a "sensor ground " wire connection...I was thinking of putting a resistor in the signal wire to get the guage into the right voltage parameter. What are your thoughts on a resistor? ...what size resistor will probably be trial and error...thanks for your info and reply...I agree the guage is useless other than if it went totally lean always or totally rich, but then the car would be running shitty anyways so you would know there's a problem even without the light show.......My downpipe doesn't have the extra 02 bung as of yet....in retrospect I should of had that done before I installled my downpipe...also I think I will contact IPD for some support on this issue...
