S80 Tsixer
Who here has lowered an s80 before? I know H&R makes springs for it and I loved them on the Acura Legend I had so I'm leaning toword those. My main concern is how much of a pain in the arse is it? Ive lowered an integra, 2 civics, a legend and a cavalier before so I'm not a noob at it but i have heard the back is very difficult and I have not seen repair manuals(chilton etc) anywhere. Is this something I will regret getting myself into halfway through? Advice?
SkyWriter
H&Rs will lower it. the rears are tough without some preparation if you use a volvo spring tool.

PhilippineT5
use an H&R for an s60, will lower the car more than an s80 spring.. did it already w/ a set of bilstein hd's.. good handling and ride quality :D
SkyWriter
will a craftsmann sp[ring compressor work or is there something special about the volvo one?i don't know about a craftsman. the volvo one is the special volvo spring tool; it's less apt to lose the spring and take your head off it's also less maneuverable. are you lowering for looks or handling? Thats why I was thinking about H&Rs because I have had them before and were a great for handling and ride quality

S80 Tsixer
i have a compressor so thats not an issue. But are the s60 H&Rs going to fit right in the 80 perches or will I have to make modifications? If they go right in and are indeed lower then thats what im going to go with
SkyWriter
i wouldn't bet my wallet on any S80 info i heard on this board ask the vendor what the difference is in the springs they sell. eibach has a different part number for S60 and S80. JVC
I would say stick with springs made for an S80, its a bigger car than the S60 by a lot more than people think and I think that if you put in S60 springs that are made to drop the S60 1 inch or so, then it will drop the S80 even further, which might not be such a good thing depending on how much more it falls. Stick with S80 springs, I'm gonna be getting some Eibachs once I get some money together unless I hear something drastically better about another spring, Eibachs are where I'll be at. Stick with S80 springs, I'm gonna be getting some Eibachs once I get some money together unless I hear something drastically better about another spring, Eibachs are where I'll be at.look at it this way:1. Volvo designs a car with a suspension that has a certain spring rate for the springs, and a certain dampening component for the struts. all of it's designed together to have a critically damped suspension over a reasonable range of street performance.on the other hand: 2. most people pick independently designed springs and struts based on anecdotes and hearsay that are mostly expressed in the two most common qualitative terms: too stiff, and sucks. never-the-less most people generally end up satisfied with their selections after one or two iterations of 2. chances are the after market parts are designed to be mostly like their stock counterparts but marginally differentiated in either quality, brand, or performance. the worst that can happen if you follow the manufactures advice is wonder if you made the right choice. the best that can happen is to join the rest of us that have made somewhat subjective improvements in the quality of our rides.YMMV!i picked H&R and Bilstein and i'm happy :)
