16t Max Boost

Now you're getting me excited.

I checked and the turbine housing is straight similar to Overboost ad although I know the one he's selling is 15G. So it possibly came off 98T5.

The downpipe is similar to this from Oreo931's listing.

The seller of my car who is (was?) a VS member told me it now has 16T, and I can only take his word for it, sadly his cred is less than stellar since some members here did not get some stuff he apparently put up for sale.

Is there a quick tell if it is in fact 16T and not 15G?

So, is that what I have for ecu, Motronic 4.3? I checked and my TCU is Aisin 5.3 (because of the tranny swap?) but the number I can find in the ecu is 8.2 - maybe the ecu type/model marking is on the other side of the unit?

BTW my car has OBDII, and has EGR, and was manufactured 03/1994.

Almost sounds like you have a 98 T5 in a 94 850 body. B) Nice. Take a look at where the turbo connects to the downpipe, that's the easiest place to see if it's angled outlet or straight outlet. If the turbine housing has an angled bend in it, then it's angled outlet, but if it's just straight out with no bend, then it's the straight outlet. If you take a picture of it, we could help you identify it.

When most everyone refers to an upgraded chip on here, they mean sending the ECU in to a company such as Speedtuning, Upsolute, IPD, or Rica and having them remap their stock programming. Then that company sends your ECU back. You can then go to the dyno and pull a wideband readout under load, send that dyno sheet with wideband information back to them and get it remapped. Repeat that process until it's dialed in.

Ideally you would find someone that can tune Motronic 4.3 and take your car into them, put it on the dyno or even just tune it on the street, that way you can have "live" tuning. That would be far superior to just about any chip or remap you can buy for these cars.

in the 1350 range

Don't want it going much higher than that. B)

8.2 is one of the ECU codes. Motronic 4.3 is the version of Motronic you have.

Interesting pics, one of them actually looks conical.

Here I edited the picture of the turbo you posted to show you where the turbo ID plate is. Read that (may have some oil or gunk on it so just rub it off) and it will tell you what turbo it is.

That is the quickest way to tell if it is a 16T and not a 15G, etc.

Thanks much, I will check it out next time I'm under the car.

Hey, one last thing in the thread http://volvospeed.com/vs_forum/index.php?showtopic=83060

Gary (Yellow95) indicated that "96-97 ecus will NOT throw a code in a 94-95 AND you get the added bonus of disabling the EGR", would you care to comment on this?

Thanks, you have educated me on Turbos today than I could imagine I would on my own for weeks.

Very much obliged,

OrleeC

OrleeC, more than welcome. :)

Yes, Gary (yellow95) is spot on with that comment. Using a 96 or 97 ECU on a 94-95 car will disable the EGR and not throw a code. There are benefits to disabling the EGR, it has been noted to increase IATs as much as 30-40*. Thusly, by disabling it you can see a performance benefit.
