atefitty Posted September 16, 2007 Report Share Posted September 16, 2007 Iv'e been reading posts on VS about the STi's and how fast they are..I've heard where they are vulnurable (highway speeds) and where you don't mess with them (from a dig) or at 40mph...On a cool night heading northbound I-5 I was going 60mph when two cars to my right, a Black Subaru STI and A red Toyota MR2 go past me and line up next to each other...They take off and the Mr2 hangs for a while but it looked like the Subaru left him and it was not the average everyday mr2 that car sounded nice and the Subaru has that deep nasty Subaru growl that I hate that sounds like it's misfiring you know what I mean..I accelerated to see whats going on but there were other cars so they get a 1/2 mile or so up..Then it happened, the night I've been waiting for...I pull up next to drivers side of the STi with my auto trans in 3, I look to my right and it's the typical Asian kid with his girlfriend in the passenger seat..This guy looks so cocky and confident and I'm kinda nervous..I see him shift down and on that que I hit it, I pull away about a car length and stay there until we both slow down because were coming up on other cars...we get another opening and go again, same results, i pull away slightly and stay there, I did not check speed on first two runs but I'm sure we were under triple digets...We both take another hwy headed east, the Mr2 stayed on north bound hwy..so he pulls up next to me to go again, were all alone, no cars in sight...I have my auto in 3 again and he's cruising in 2nd I suppose cause were moving slower to start this one..We both go and neither car gives and inch until he shifts and I gain maybe a foot, this race is so close it's crazy I have my window down so I hear his BOV sound on every shift, he shifts again and my nose inches up another foot and sticks there, I'm waiting for this STI to pull away from me but it couldn't....I look at the speedo just before letting off and I'm at 130 by then he's a few car lengths behind, I'm so pumped i just started yelling and pumping my fist, it was like I won Indy 500 or something..lol..after slowing I motion him to pull over so we could talk, he does not comply and goes past me..I got off at the exit but got right back on, my heart is still racing..I have to catch this guy and say something..I catch up to him and I ask did I just beat your STI??? Not bad for a volvo huh? He asked me if I had AWD and he said his was AWD of which I already knew..he looks at me and says lets go from 40 mph....I did not comply, you see I did my homework....he gets pissed and hits it from 40 and that thing is gone, I would of surely lost from 40 as our cars suck from that speed...As I said before he did have his 85lb girlfriend with him but I was still proud as hell of my 10 year old 850R with 112k miles....I'd like to thank IPD for my ecu upgrade, EST for my intake, And CJ for my beautifully crafted downpipe..and TME for my catback exhaust....big ups to all ya all...sorry for such a long post but a race between the much maligned STI and a 850R is worth it isn't it?...I wonder how well I would of done with a man. trans..smile...So yes, STI's are badass cars that go like a bat outa hell but our 850's can be made to humble them.. Full system 3 inch ,16t , upsolute tuning running 19 psi, intake ,no engine work O and around 160 000 miles on it. I have to say that he left me 2 cars from 40 mph to 135 . we spoke after race and I was told that his car should have 280 290 at the wheels.It was a good race , Right now I did bigger injectors white 360 cc , I will try any subie tonight.we got Friday let's go racing .
