you live in Minneapolis and think you can winter a Boxter? come on. Stick with a sedan like the M5 that you can put snows on and still make it to work. My friend's dad drives an M5 in the winter, and garages the 911. If you really want a Porsche, I would go with a 996 Carrera4 - should be in your price range and is at least mildly winterable because of AWD.

Forget about the M3 or Boxter/911 unless your wrists are limp. I laugh at every single 18-24 year-old I see driving either one of those thinking they are actaully cool cars. I wouldn't be caught dead in them. However, if I missed something and somewhere you mentioned it being a car for your wife/girlfriend...they make great daily-drivers for wannabe rich-bitches.

Z06 or E39 M5 are the only cars worth thinking about on that list. Nothing touches the Z06 in terms of performance and fuel-economy, whereas the M5 is an awesome car if you need two extra doors.

You make a lot of sense some times.

Car would be for me. And I can winter just about anything, not worried about that :-P but winterability is a major concern.

What cars would you call cool then Joe? i love the E39 I have now (01 525i) but it is my wifes, and a bit slow for my tastes, but it does drive/ride excellent. I've also considered an M-sport 540i. Still pretty quick and good handling.

Also, does anyone have any ideas for an older non-american project car? Should i decide to get a dedicated summer car.

Get a M or 540. Don't mess with the M sport

G35 isn't bad, although I'm not a huge fan of the interior.

Right now I primarily to and from work drive an 01 S40 1.9t, Otherwise I drive an 01 525i (E39). And I love the E39, just want something a bit faster than the 525i.

Why don't you like the M-sport Chuck? I drove one the other day and liked it.

And I haven't been on MNSCC in a while. I was one of the original members, just looked at my "join date" and it's June of 2003 :P
