Aftermarket Alarm

I've had an after market alarm on my car since I bought it in 2004. I'm not sure on the brand or type, but it has remote start and a voice that used to say "system armed/disarmed" but that hasn't worked for about 1 1/2 years; which I'm not too worried about. But if I leave my car sitting for a few days, my battery will be drained. The same sometimes happens on a really cold winter night. I bought a Optima redtop last fall and had it and my alternator checked at Advanced Auto, they were good. I've also unhooked my audio system for periods of time, to no prevail. I'm just curious as to why my alarm is sucking so much energy and how difficult it would be to remove the alarm and/or certain components that could be the culprit. Thanks, Riku

Cool, thanks guys...also, is the remote starter usually incorporated within the alarm system "brain" itself or would I be able to unhook just the alarm and keep the remote start? i.e. the remote starter being a separate entity from the alarm, if that makes sense?

Depends. If they were installed at the same time they're likely one in the same. You can try to pull the alarm wires and not the start and see what happens, but there's no guarantee that it will solve the issue. If you pull the whole thing and still want remote start you could always install something after the fact. It would be pretty easy since everything that needs to get tapped is already done and finding wires is the hardest part.
