MeanGreenSwedeMachine
So I changed my PCV hoses and just got the car started today. I have pretty weak vacuum, the engine sounds like its surging in idle, though RPMs stay pretty constant. Exhaust also smells a little funny. I let it idle for a few minutes and it didn't throw any codes. Any ideas? Thanks
Guest 850T-5
if this just happened and wasn't a problem before, I'd definately retrace your steps and check everything . . . .Any vacuum lines left unhooked during the service, any hoses damaged? Are the hoses all attached properly and clamped securely?Did you replace the Intake Manifold Gasket? MeanGreenSwedeMachine
Yeah, thats the plan for tomorrow, I was just hoping maybe the symptoms would help someone give me better direction than tearing it all apart again. MeanGreenSwedeMachine
I did use the ones from Josh, and also these ones that were more detailed: http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.p...highlight=boostI'm guessing that I probably just didn't get one of the vacuum hoses on tight enough. You didnt follow the directions pinned here did you? The ones from Josh?
Che'_Moderator
The ones from Josh are incorrect. Not sure about the other site.
MeanGreenSwedeMachine
Do you know off hand what was incorrect about Josh's? I kind of used both depending on which one had better pictures of the step I was on.
7 VII 7
I believe Josh had bad vacuum hoses identification?
MeanGreenSwedeMachine
Haha, great. Thats probably exactly where my problem is. Bad vacuum, rough idle, sounds like messed up vacuum hoses.
MrWinkey
I don't know who Josh is but I remember seeing a post with a diagram that the 2 hoses were reversed on the oil trap ...and actually FCP Groton's page had it incorret. Either way I honestly doubt that is your issue. I'm more inclined to think you have a large vac. leak or possibly missed something as stated. If Josh's description is incorrect why hasn't it been pulled where ever it is here?
