andyb5
In the s-turn, speed achieves absolute beauty [...] Speed on a straight line is big, vulgar, unconscious. Speed during and after a bend is nimble and self aware [...] The s-turn conquered at high speed is the most sublime expression of life An excerpt from one of the architectural essays I had to read for class tomorrow that discusses the advent of the automobile and "speed" in early Modernism. Thought you guys might appreciate that

Burn-E
Ikea has withdrawn meatballs from sale in 14 European countries after traces of horsemeat found in a batch made in Sweden. Hmm, and here I had always figured they were made from moose.

Hmm, and here I had always figured they were made from moose.I don't get what all the fuss is about with horses? There's a couple things that are pretty poor, like not being included on ingredients lists, managing to go unnoticed all this time, and the fact that it indicates some possibly illegal activity. But that doesn't seem to be what people are as upset/shocked about. Just simply that they were eating a different animal.

But that doesn't seem to be what people are as upset/shocked about. Just simply that they were eating a different animal. When I lived in France you could walk down to the butcher and pick up horse steaks - as a meat it is cheaper. Most of the Western world however abhors hippophagy. And a big part of it is because they're considered like a dog, something personal and useful and an important part of the working life once upon a time. That said, there is concern that a few of these horses were treated with drugs (phenylbutazone) that could be harmful to humans AND this is clearly fraud since the processed products are labeled as beef (cow) which means you're paying for more for something that shouldn't be so expensive. Mainly it's a cost and moral outrage issue than anything else.
