Does anyone know what the factory tint level on P80's is? I just did a quick search and couldn't find good info but maybe I'm doing it wrong. My front passenger window peeled, and it's at a MA-legal 35%. I think I'm going to try and redo this one window myself. I'd like to stay legal, but I fear if I buy a sheet of 35%, it'll end up being effectively 30%.

I have a feeling this is going to end with me pissed off and a shitty tint job. But I figure I'll try it once before I give in. Unless some of you more experienced guys want to tell me I'm crazy.

I was always under the impression that all cars had a very minor, almost imperceptible amount of tint from the factory. Like 95-97% allowed light.

Generally speaking, you won't ever own a car with a visibility of 100% through the windows as far as tint goes, so yes you're right Alden.

In Mass, if your legal limit is 35%, IMHO get it tinted 35%. At that level, the factory tint isn't enough to add to the 35% and bring it down. There is a difference in the visibility level of the glass versus the visibility level of a film. When you stack tint on tint, you can do simple math to figure out what your level is (20% laid on top of 35% will give you an effective level of 7%). It's not the same when you stack a tint on top of factory glass. In your case, you can expect to see 35% tint net you around 33% when measured on our glass. When I had the C70, Justin told me he tinted the windows 35%, and just out of curiosity my neighbor (County Sheriff) measured it for me, which is where that figure came from.

Long story short, I doubt if they ever measured your tint level that they'd ever bother you for being 2% darker than legal, but that's my opinion and what I would do.

I'm having my windows tinted on Monday. The general consensus across the board is that you'll never get bothered with 35%. It's dark enough to do it's job but not too dark that it really impairs your visibility. I'm going with 35% on all six side windows and 25% rear windshield (because the rear windshield doesn't matter and it'll darken up the rear seats just a touch without giving too much contrast.

Is that 20% Travis?

Lighter cars always look like the windows are darker than they really are. In addition, the color of your interior will change the appearance of how dark the tint is. Charcoal/Nordkap/Black interior cars with 35% tint may look like tan interior cars with 20-25%.

This is 35% all sides and 20% rear windshield with a Nordkap interior. This is what I'm looking to do. It's legal, but enough to do the job.

Also I want that 911 Turbo.

25% and 30% is pretty hard to come by at local tint shops if you want 3M. The shop I'm going to is doing mine in 3M, but they have 25% instead of 20%. Next darkest is 15%, and next lightest is 35%. It's really hit or miss but generally most shops are 55%, 35%, 20%, 5% for their 3M products as far as I've seen.

Thanks for the help Trav! Definitely going 35% on the sides and 25% on the rear windshield, yours is a bit dark for my paint code I think.

Car looks great though! You've lowered it since then, yes?

I think 35 is good for the grey car, here's another one timmeh

Not in Virginia. Anything over the limit is gonna get you a ticket.

Also some cheaper tint fades over time, so trying to match up a newly tinted window to an older one may look different if it's faded.

Do they at least give a fix it ticket or just a straight up fine?
