My friend John has an E36 M3 convertible he inherited years ago from his uncle.

It squeaks and rattles like a motherfucker but it handles like no other car..

$5k in suspension and another $1k in tires every few weeks.. But he will hand you your ass on the track.

What about mini cooper?

requirements are convertible, manual, under $10K, preferably green in color. The mini copper vert looks like butt.

Options

Z3

Z4 -maybe, not many near this price point

NB or NC miata

S2K

350Z

I've shown here the E36/46 verts and she'd rather have a Z. I plan to find a few options in the list above and have her test drive them, with the Z's being last, if she drives them first she's likely to buy one without considering the others.

Thanks for all the input guys, I'm not so weary of the BMW's anymore, but I think this topic might be a bit dead at this point. Of course there are the F body GM cars, and mustangs but those were never in the consideration because she doesn't like them. She likes to drive but she has a different perspective on the experience than we all do, more so a Sunday cruiser on the back roads than someone trying to fly around corners as fast as she can.

Yeah I actually really like the Zs. Only thing I didn't like about them is in driving turbos for so long it seems to lack any mid range power/torque that I normally expect and I don't often like having to wind the engine out to get power. Other than that, it's a very fun car, simplistic interior, and great sound.

It takes some getting used to to make full boost and HP at 7200 or so

Lol I'm also not used to being able to downshift into 3rd gear at 70mph and pull hard  Still getting comfortable with that. Lifted rev limiter is so much fun, I'm so glad I got that tune :D
