Volvo Virgin
Just had the heater core and radiator replaced 3 months ago and since then I've had to add coolant twice. Just a very small amount both times after the low coolant light flickered. Don't see any steam out the tailpipe or tell-tale spots in the driveway. Also no wet spots under the car that are obvious. Any ideas on obvious little common leaks that aren't usually real obvious? I was kinda hoping it was some air that was belching out of the system the first time it happened. But I had to add more coolant today.
MrWinkey
Have a shop pressure test the system for you. Very simple?
Volvo Virgin
Have a shop pressure test the system for you. Very simple?Going to get there eventually if I can't find it myself. But was looking for possible common failures at this point.
rwb
It could just be air getting out of the system, but still go and get a pressure test.
Volvo Virgin
Being a closed system with no radiator cap, do these cars sometimes trap air for this long of a period of time? I've put 4,000 miles on the car in the 3 months since the new rad and core.
rwb
It could have been air that vented into your overflow tank, but after 4000 miles I doubt it.
dmelviØØ7
How is your tranny doing? Sometimes these cars will lose their tranny coolers and start dumping coolant into the tranny! Exciting stuff. Could be a seeping water pump too.

Exciting stuff. Could be a seeping water pump too.Water pump looked okay when I checked it a couple days ago. No sign of coolant or corrosion around the weep hole and the shaft is tight. I'm going to check my tranny fluid tomorrow for froth. Thanks for the heads up on that one. Tranny is as solid as the day I bought it shiftwise, but I believe the diff has developed too much slop in it of late. My clunk in my drivetrain that I've been chasing for the past year has become intolerable and a buddy of mine who owns a trans shop suspects the differential. I'm scheduled to see him next week.
