Guest Guest_Mike_*
Does anyone know the purpose of the thin black cable on air filter cover? Mine is broken (1999 S70).
Dmsee
Vacuum maybe ?is it a electronic cable or hose?
Guest Guest_Mike_*
It's just a very thin black plastic cord (tube like) that attaches to the back side of the air filter cover. it's much thinner than a pencil. it appears to have a very small hole in the center of the cable, so maybe it measures vacuum pressure or something. what strikes me as odd is how flimsy it is...it almost looks like it's just meant as a tether to hold the air filter cover in place when you take it off. i tried to follow the cord as it was routed below the air filter, but I could not easily see where the other end of the cord is attached. i didn't see any electronics within the cord. does this additional information help???
Dmsee
Its probably a vacuum hose look closely at the airbox

Guest Guest_Mike_*
Agreed. so it's a vacuum line.Does anyone know what this little vacumm line does? Since it's broke at the 90 degree elbow going into the airbox, it's obviously not pulling any vauum in my car. At yet I have not experienced any problems. I've read on other forums many people saying that these elbows do tend to brake easily, but no one has been able to tell me what this silly little vacuum lines DOES?
Dmsee
I assume you have NAI am not really sure if S70 has that but its worth a shot. Well, there is a thing called thermostat which closes or opens. When your car is cold it will let the warm air from exhaust to heat it up fasterJust put it back on it. the reason u not having any problems because its not an important part. I had this thing disconnected on 850 and it worked fine
Guest Guest_Mike_*
Thanks.I'm sorry, but I don't know what is meant by "NA" in this context.(?)I'm not exactly sure how I'll put it back on since the connecting elbow is the part that is cracked. Maybe I can buy a new elbow, or maybe I can just feed the hose directly into the air filter compartment without the elbow. Not sure how I would do that though...
