SkyWriter
I'm looking into increasing the boost. i would like to add an ETG as a diagnostic measure to see if my exhaust is to restricted. do i have to go all out and get one for each independent downpipe or would one pipe be enough. haven't seen this question treated in the contemporary literation. T6, stock turbo's, looking into pre-MAF compressors.
JHEIII874T5M
Personally, I would say go for individual EGTs.
theForgottenone
Personally, I would say go for individual EGTs.That's six of them Not sure how the T6 setup if you go single route (most cost efficient), then place one right before exhaust manifold meet the DP. thelostartof
EGT is a waste of $ ... mainly good for tuning timing and most of the time by the time it reads to high your engine is toast.if you want to do an EGT right you need one in each cyl around 1-2" from the head port
stick70
what would having egts available tell you? and what would you be able to do about it?
Che'_Moderator
what would having egts available tell you? and what would you be able to do about it?If you have it on all cylinders you can tune with it. Having it on one gives you an idea if something wrong, or more importantly if your pushing the car too heard. 100+ mph under racing conditions EGTs tend to start creeping up. Or as Cpt. Clicky figured out, during a highspeed/top speed run the same thing can happen. Personally I tune with A/f and drive with EGT. AF is too hard to monitor when racing, where as EGT gives you a basic idea of the engine with a glance.
SkyWriter
what would having egts available tell you? and what would you be able to do about it?pretty much exactly for the reasons chuck said. what i'm concerned about is the exhaust restrictions of the turbos over certain lengths of time due to higher than normal (even above ECU tune) boost, perhaps some other things too. maybe in the end i'll have a problem somewhere else, but at least here is a place i can put a measurement. i could port the turbos some more, or make the waste gates larger.b
stick70
Gotcha, thanks guysIf your looking for info on the individual turbos themselves then wouldnt you benefit from two individual sensors?

stick70
yeah, i know they have nothing to do with the turbo itself but would it indicate a restriction like he was looking for?
Fudge_Brownie
EGTs have nothing to do with the turbo.Doesn't a restrictive smaller turbine housing help to keep EGT's up?
