As far as part go for the pcv...The whole oil filter housing gets replaced, its one unit. They were on backorder for a while, but def make use of your warranty while u can!

Aren't you talking about the oil separator box, that is part of the "flame trap" PCV system, which is different than the housing for the main oil filter element? To replace this oil separator box, it might be necessary to remove the intake manifold to get at it, since it is underneath the manifold. Look at the picture in the link in my previous post, above. Unless I am missing something, this is what you are talking about.

T5gruppy is right Not all Volvo Techs are bad. Service advisors sometimes get carried away though. Some of them know just enough to get themselves in trouble. Remember the Advisor isn't the tech and sometimes there are too many chiefs and not enough indians when it comes to proper explainantions to the customer. The explaination from the tech goes through enough ears the outcome is totally different to the customer.

The oil filter housing is the breather assembly. Usually the accordian hose can tear and cause a leak or the baffles inside break.

This causes the howling noise. One or the other/both will need to get replaced. Very common though.

Well said...best Service writer statement I ever heard was when the customer asked if it was a common problem that the gas door hinge breaks? Advisor stated yes but this is a saftey item that Volvo has engineered into the vehicle.:lol:
