sion Posted October 21, 2007 Report Share Posted October 21, 2007 Ok, this is a weird one...When rolling along, it's a noise not unlike having a stone or other foreign object lodged in the tyre tread. It's not that easy though, as the tyre is completely clear of debris.I first noticed it with my window down & being RHD down here, the noise is amplified whenever driving next to medium strips & guard rails. It clicks away until speed is slowed to around 10-20km/h. It sounds very similar to the noise a relay makes, but I doubt there's one in the vicinity of the wheelwell that could project the noise sidewards.There's no bearing noise as such either, as I suspected that might be it.Any clues fellas? Jack up the wheel below the control arm with a piece of wood (to protect the control arm) so the wheel is off the ground but as close as possible to being in the horizontal position. Block all the other wheels. Start the car and let the wheel spin on idle, Look for where the noise is coming from. You may need to take the wheel off to see better.
