Time For A New Bov

Recommended Posts

So I'm finally getting rid of my fake HKS SSQV and giving it to my roommate for his MKIV GTi. It leaks but I doubt he cares. I'm looking at a few bovs other than a real SSQV. GReddy Type-S (if I can get my hands on one since they don't make them anymore), GReddy Type-R (street version), Turbosmart Supersonic...I want the same high-pitched whistle you can get from a Type-S. I heard some sound clips of a Type-R and it sounded extremely hot, but GReddy recommends 260-450hp ranges for the street version, and I'm wondering if my setup would be sufficient enough to get the true sound. I wasn't big on the Type-RS as it's just a weak sneezing sound, and the Turbosmart sounded pretty good. I'm getting all my hoses hardpiped when I change the bov, getting new front and rear O2 sensors, getting the pre-O2 exhaust leaks taken care of, and dyno tuned so it should be pushing a good 300bhp+. Any suggestions? I've heard the Type-S on a few cars and it sounded great, but getting one might take some searching. The Type-R stutters a bit I think.

If your not going w/ the HKS SSQV...then the next option is a TIAL...but I'm not sure if you thinking along the lines of performance, because the HKS SSQV is hands down one of the best, not to mention the TIAL...except that w/ the TIAL, you'll have to swap springs depending on your setup...

i gotta question. This might sound really dumb, but i was jw what was up with those bov's you hear on cars that almost stutter.... like the ones you here on those badass supras and stuff. I was jw why they do that instead of the normal ol' pshhhh

its called flutter. its basically air or something smacking up against the turbo's compressor wheel or something. i can't remember what exactly it is off the top of my head, but it isn't good.
