Finally Drove My Formula Car After 4+ Months Of Building

So after almost 5 months of assembling this thing out of a dozen or so boxes of parts my brother and I (plus a few friends) finally went out drove the car today. It's an absolutely incredible ride. We started getting things dialed in (like the engine) after we put the camera down. It's a decent bit faster now than it is in the acceleration video. I'd say it's decently balanced too considering we haven't scaled it yet or added any ballast. It was really fun to throw the car into a turn and feel the G forces it could hold - way beyond any sports car I've driven. O well I am ecstatic that I finally got to drive it somewhere as the build was very frustrating.

im assuming you built this for a formula series ei. formula ford, mazda etc. I've always thought it was a great idea if you wanted to step up your track racing to a higher level, but the advice i've always got from people is to buy someone else's racecar. maybe i'll take this off your hands sometime in the future who knows. btw... u go to RIT? RIT's formula sae is probably one of the best programs in the nation.

No I have a degree in political science, engineering would have been a better choice given my interests. This car was formerly a solo car which was nationally very competitive. It was owned by a guy named bill who lives in NY. He sold it to a friend who took it apart so he could do a 4 link conversion on it and race club F500 class. Bill's friend sold it back to bill since he got nearly nothing done, cept taking everything apart. I bought it in early june and have been working on it since. My brother and I intend to do autocross and hill climbs with it this coming year. We will definately be doing some major work to de-ghetto the car, since we have some areas for opportunity. Those include all new brake master cylinders, calipers, control arms (made of aero tubing instead of oval), new damper setup, converting to 4 link, and possibly going to the 500cc class. While I can't say building is fun, driving the thing is a freakin blast and by next summer we should be having quite a bit of fun.

As far as the RIT team goes, they aren't that good (I have been told this by a number of people). They are not a front runner in their design competition, although their car is pretty quick. I do fully intend to steal their FTD's next year at every autocross event I see them at, and with my car I have a pretty good chance of doing it B) .

to me it doesn't seem like it's that fast. is the power limited by the class you plan on racing in? sweet job putting it together but i thought it would be something horribly fast like a 600cc go kart.
