this might sound stupid but are u replacing all of your interior lights like for switches and stuff? (moonroof, rear defrost, tracs, climate controls, etc) prolly over half of mine are either out or dim as is the case with my climate controls but when i talked to my mechanic about replacing them he said they are suprisingly expensive ... is this right? where could i get new lights for the switches without having to go through a dealer and is it that difficult of a job to complete?

thanks in advance,

mike

Mike,

How much is the dealer quoting? ... I might be interested in doing the leds for you for a price that we can work out. PM me if you like.

I don't think you understand my query completely. I have remote window rollup modules that are tied into the window switch circuits. They stop rolling up the windows when they sense resistance on the motor (window is up or hand is stuck in the window :) )

No, you are the one who doesn't understand. The lighting circuit for the window switches is TOTALLY SEPERATE from the power circuit that raises and lowers the windows. If you were powering the windows off the lighting circuit, you would blow the fuse and all your dash lights would go out.

If you are still frying LEDs it is more likely your resistor is bad or is it is being shorted somehow.

I think my switches upper part doesn't have the red tint, any case, I can't even get the bulb to light up. I'll try a white LED just for sh*ts and giggles.

What car do you have? I have been talking about an 850. I am not sure what the 70 series hazzard switch is like.

Dude, in the 850, the lights in the window switches are NOT on the parking light circuit or dash circuit. Have you noticed that they light WHENEVER your keys are in the AC, I, and II positions? That means that they see 12v whenever your window switches are operable. They do not rely on the a separate circuit. Believe me, I've been inside this switch way too many times.

Thanks for trying though.

another thought is that is IS lighting up, but the red film is canceling out all the usable blue light. I had this happen to me trying to light the hazards as well. I couldnt even tell the light was coming on till it was really dark, and even then it was VERY dim. Good luck trying to change the color on that one.

Paul's got it. You can't do blue in that one, unless you scrape off the red film behind the switch. Your best bet is to leave it alone, since that triangle is on the inside of the plastic film as well.

I just left the incandescent bulb in there, even though I was doing red.

Ding ding ding! Red will block blue.
