scout01
why are you not able to hear the turbo spool? is it because of the size of it. 2001 S40 1.9 Tplease let me know.
Kibim
The LPT 1.9T only boosts about .3 bar. That's no a lot. You're not going to get that air rushing sound. The turbo's have a CBV, which bypasses the compression wheel on lift-off or overrun situations, so you're not going to get any 'dump-valve' sound there either. The induction piping, air filter and bonnet dampening of the car all kill the sound of the turbo. As does the heat-shield.

Kibim
I hear mine nicely at 1.6 bar too ... No heat shield, K&N filter and dump-valve. But a 1.9t with a 11G 'i think' is a different animal.

Owned
At 9 PSI mine is as loud as my catless exhaust. At 23 PSI it's very loud.
theForgottenone
Its like hearing a mouse squeak. It's more like airplane high pitch squeal in mine Get EST intake (or K&N panel filter, remove sound deadening foam in airbox, run ram air tubing from front grille) , upgrade your exhaust and put MBC in there. Crank to 14psi and you'll start to hear some noise :P

Serge
Try replacing the stock air filter, that restricts quite a bit of "wooshing" sound.
HtownTurboBrick
hahaha everyone's recommending non performance necessary work just to hear the turbo...but yea everyone is right, hell just open the air box and run a mbc at 14psi...you'll hear plenty. go open down pipe while you're at it, youll hear the exhuast side too.
