What Did You Do To Your Car Today.

Finished my Suede Headliner, a few imperfections where the glue bled through, but its a lot better than the dirty one I had. Doesn't quite match, but since the headliner doesn't see direct sunlight it is close enough. Might re-do it if I find a closer match.

That's actually kinda schnazzy!

He wasn't there this weekend (probably b/c of his suspension and the race being a UCI sanctioned event) but his brother was there. They're cool guys, they seem down to earth.

On topic: filled it with gas, pressure washed the belly. Decided to tackle the surface rust this week. It's not going to be a small job.... :(

That's on the VR????

Whereabouts the NEC did your VR come from, Matt?

Rochester, NY. Not sure if the PO couldn't wash the undercarriage often enough or if Volvo was that sloppy with rust protection but it looks like death right now. Had it on the lift last week and that was a rude awakening.

It makes a huge difference. XC90 has had exposure to 6 winters with plenty of road salt. PO owned a car wash and was meticulous about washing it off, as I am. The car doesn't have a seized bolt anywhere, no rust, no signs that it was ever exposed to salt.

It's nothing I can't fix, it's just annoying. I park it next to a 30 yr old French car that doesn't have an ounce of rust on it. And those cars rust just from hearing there's salt on the roads!

I wasn't even that meticulous about washing off the bottom of the S70 NA that was my DD and it saw full exposure to the weather for 14 years with probably getting washed once every couple of weeks and there was no corrosion on the bottom. Bolts had some issues when it came time to change out the calipers 2 years ago, but nothing like what you're seeing Matt. That looks like poor sealant on the bottom by Volvo compounded by the serious snow they see in upper NY State.

And on that note, I now want to wash my undercarriage.

Did you just put it up on stands, crawl under and use a powerwasher on it? Is there anything I need to worry about when doing this?

I just raised one side with the jack, pressure washed everything (staying away from the Haldex box) and I'll put it on stands when I take the wire brush and seam sealer to it.

I have access to a lift and could do it there. But it's a pain to have a car drying at a shop when you need to be home. This way I could work on it every night this week and have it done by the weekend. I'll try to remember to take pics. Some areas are gnarly.
