Started it. That doesn't sound like much but in this weather everything is a challenge. Thankfully I was (and usually am) able to start it. It was a balmy 15 degrees in my garage, significantly warmer than outside! I usually don't park inside but I don't have a block heater and my Suburban does so it was out and plugged in. At these temps, the foam in the seats even gets stiff. Getting in to start the engine is like sitting on a board. Even breathing hurts but we're all at work and school and carrying on as usual. In this weather, just breaking down on the side of the road can become a life threatening ordeal especially for people who think they should try to walk to find help or are injured in a damaged car that no longer runs or provides shelter due to broken glass etc... A friend of mine outside of town has no runinning water because either the submersible pump or the buried pipes froze. Around here we call that a hard freeze. Not your usual 0 deg F sissy freeze :D

But no complaints here, I'm just sharing and NOT feeling sorry for the rest of the country. At least we didn't get two feet of snow...

We call that Tuesday.

EDIT: Pulled the boot off, 3 ball bearings fell out of the boot when I took the clamps off. And the axle is 100% seperated from the CV joint

It's a matter of a few degrees. Once you get to -10 it's pretty much all the same. Too cold to be outside. We saw -50 windchill a few days ago.

OH SNAP!

Yeah, that reminds me of the Blues Brothers when they're all comparing prison food, "They're all pretty bad." And the comment above is pretty much right, anything below -10 and I dress and prepare for the same way. At lower than -20 like today though we do start to see other effects like tires failing for no apparent reason, underground pipes freezing as I mentioned, etc. Another friend of mine in the mountains who I keep in contact with through ham radio, it's 39 inside their house, brrrr!

Stay warm y'all!

Friday after work...

Installed the Forge CBV (that bottom bolt was a lot of fun to get out), Snaab TCV, Snaab Fresh air pipe, and the Snaab RIP kit. I like it, performs a lot better across the map IMO. I'll do a legitimate write up in the performance section when I have more time.

On Saturday I went to autocross to discover I was missing a bolt holding the radiator assembly. It was sagging on one side. Missed the first part of the practice while I was fixing it, but was able to drive it for the afternoon. Went to the autocross banquet that evening and then drove home 80 miles in the snow. DWS FTW. :)

Installed my new sub in the same box I had... toasted the old one, and I picked up a Funkin Audio 10" woofer on a super sale from DIYMA.com for like $30 new. they had an 80% off sale to liquidate their stock, had to buy a pair though so I have a spare. haha

I also reinstalled my old headunit, got rid of the flip out I had from Pras. Went back to a USB input JVC unit so I can connect my phone. That cleared up tons of audio issues I had been having with radio reception/cutting out on turns/interference.

All in all, a good day for audio. Still to come, door speaker replacements with a 4ch amp to drive them. Should make it nice and loud!

Last night... Replaced my upper motor mount. The original wasn't clunking, but it was loose and I had a terrible engine vibration and I figured out why. The PO put a poly mount in there, I hate those things. Night and day difference for no engine noise or vibration while I'm driving. I'll replace that rubber mount every 10k miles before I'll throw one of those poly mounts in there again.

Also vacuumed it, cleaned all the glass, then cleaned all the interior panels. Haven't cleaned the interior panels since before I did the transmission swap. Trying to quit smoking so I want to get all that cig funk as far gone as I can. I didn't even have an ashtray in my car and I always put the window down when I smoked, but its amazing how much that still stinks.
