What Did You Do To Your Car Today.

Odd. I have charcoal x70 trim from the a pillars to the tailgate. Everything swapped straight in. I also had no issues swapping the high mount led brake light and associated trim on my 850 hatch.

That is odd....

The seatbelt and headliner trim pushed against the inside of the v70 b-pillar and wouldn't allow it to snap in place at the top. Maybe I missed something...

As for the high mount brake light, I am clueless. Maybe there are different brake lights, but the one I removed from the v70 was bolted in place. My 850 tailgate does not have any bolt holes that I can use to attach the high mount brake light. The trim around the brake light snapped in place, the but light would just flop around in there. Did your 850 tailgate have bolt holes for the light?

Edit: It looks like your wagon is a '96. Mine is a '97, so I'd be surprised if yours had the bolt holes and mine didnt.

The high mount bolted straight in. There was holes and everything. IIRC there are two red plastic doohickeys that snap into two square holes in the tailgate. That is where they bolt to.

AH! I didn't take those from the parts car!! DOH! :arob:

Thank you for the info. I'm glad I didn't throw out the parts!

Edit: Woohoo! Found the parts I need.

GR-72525.jpg

part no. 7 = screw - 986116

part no. 8 = plastic nut - 1246840

Double edit:

I found a thread with a write up for adding the 3rd brake light. '?do=embed' frameborder='0' data-embedContent>>

The thread says you have to drill the screws in, but I am pretty sure the 3rd brake light I pulled from the JY has different mounting points. Hopefully mine will just screw in like yours, Kalvin.

The thread also indicates that you need to swap the relay from the v70 to avoid a bulb out warning light on the dash. Did you need to do that Kalvin? I was hoping to just splice the wiring in and disconnect the old third brake light.

Triple edit:

Looks like I will have to swap the relay, and I may have to drill holes. No biggie, just want to figure this out in advance.

Datsun, I got the clutch working. After that I got the carbs all adjusted and dialed in, then set the timing; the thing runs better than it ever did. Tonight I'll do the brakes, then it should be done enough to drive. Going to wait till fall to do the body on the other one I have, need to keep the wife happy so I'm going to do some house repairs/projects this summer rather than work on my cars.

98 280Z had EFI. Did you go backwards to the carbs?

Loved my 280z. ran great with a few mods.

I just spliced into the 850 harness and never got a bulb out light. Never drilled holes either.

I wouldn't say I went backwards. It has triple Mikuni carbs and the engine isn't stock, has a cam, headwork, but the block is basically stock.

Never cared for the carbs. I put a 300zx throttle body on it, opened up the intake, plus I used the 76 head. No carbed Z could keep up with me :)

Besides, EGR was long gone, most all vacuum hoses were gone too!

Ever 1/4 it? What 'carbed' Zs were you racing?

Do you have an 850 or V70 tailgate?

Currently? A v70 gate. Before I found a decent gate in 601 I had retrofitted the high mount led to my 850 gate. I've been referring to my experiences prior to the v70 gate install.
