What Did You Do To Your Car Today.

Well then this might piss you off Kev. Last week I took a trip from Cleveland to Allentown, PA, up to the Finger Lakes for the week, then to Rochester, and back to Cleveland this morning. I did the receipt math and averaged 31.9mpg, and 75% of those miles were back roads :D

grumble grumble

purely highway I get 32-36 mpg, I say averaging 25 mpg for daily driving is pretty damn awesome....considering where I live

Is this on the coupe? Can't remember which car you're driving these days.

Those parts were for the saffron coupe. Not going to drive it until it's 100% to my liking. As of now I'm driving the silver coupe but it gets picked up at the end of the week.

Raced it.

Coils all sorted out?

He probably spend 50% less time trying to fix it. Sometime, you get what you pay for.

He is also modifying them for use outside the intended range of adjustment to better suit the demands of autocross. So for what he is doing, KWs would cost more, offer less adjustability, and still need modification.

Don't get me wrong, KW makes a good product and if I had the money, I'd love a set of KW V3s - my friend has them in his Speed3 and they are surprisingly comfortable and handle well.

Too bad KWs offer less adjustability than D2 and don't include camber plates. Sure, KWs are nice, but for George's application D2s are superior.

Exactly the reason I don't have KW. They have no camber adjustment, you can't alter spring rate and the price is almost double. Quality is no doubt better with the KWs, but the trade off was worth me going with the D2s. Beyond the end link mounting tab problem, I have had no issues with them in 2.5 years or racing and street use, and I have been surprised. I did tear through a rear shock mount, but that was stock Volvo.

Even the D2's didn't have enough adjustability and I have modified them a bit to give me more negative camber adjustment. My end link problem has been solved.

oh ok. Thought you still had Dunlops.

You like the Hankooks?

I wore out the Dunlops a while ago, and they haven't come out with a replacement for the Starspec Z2s yet, so I went with the Hankooks.

I really only got them broken in yesterday, and my final two runs were nice. Still messing with optimal tire pressure and temperature to run at, but should have that figured out at the next event. They seem to like heat better than the D2s. The Dunlops were best when cold, so I would spray them after every run.

One thing I don't like about them is they only come in a 45 series to fit our cars, so they are a bit tall. That wouldn't be bad if the sidewall were super stiff, but it isn't.

I agree about the Dunlops. I found that as the day went on and heat built the grip was diminished. I kept the pressure as close to 35 as I could but by the end of the day they felt a little slippery to me, especially in the front. I was wondering if that was in my head..

I am running 45s on the M3 as well. I would have preferred to run 235/40 but my options were limited in that size and I need a streetable tire not just a race tire..

My plan for next year is to have a second set of mounted tires for track and AX purposes

I have 4 sets of rims now. :) I picked up a cheap set ($600) when I bought the tires from Tire Rack. I am running 235/45/17s. I had to raise the front a bit and a lot more fender work to get them to fit. I will probably go back to a 225 after I wear these out.

Enkei VR5s

They are ok, but more importantly the offset works and they easily clear my brakes. :)

How does the sidewall stiffness compare to the Z2s?

Glad to hear you confirm the RS3s love heat. Although they're not as sticky as the RS3s my V12s love heat too - the harder I drive the more they stick

Well, I can't say they love the heat, they just seem better than the Z2s. The BF Goodrich Rivals love the heat. Ran a set of those in 90 degree heat on concrete a few weeks ago and I never sprayed them.

Sidewall is difficult to say right now. I need to try running them at lower pressure, but I would say right now it is a little stiffer.
