2000 V70 - A Couple Of Issues

Item #1: The light that illuminates the gear shift position on the center console (P,R,N,D,etc) has gone out. Does the cover pop out or do I need to pull half the car apart to get to some screws underneath to remove the cover, so that I can replace the bulb?

Item #2: The rear window wiper stopped working. I checked the fuse - it's fine. I can hear a faint click in the fuse box area when I try to engage the wiper with the switch on the steering column, so I think the switch may be working. Not sure how to test the wiper motor itself without just replacing it with another one, which I don't have - I did check to make sure the connector in the tailgate was connected - it is. Any ideas? Do the wiper motors typically fail? This one was rarely used.

Item #3: The tailgate has stopped engaging easily when closing. I really have to shut it hard to get it to latch properly. Could the lock be going bad? Maybe the metal loop on the floor has shifted slightly. Is this pretty common? Come to think of it...could having to repeatedly slam the tailgate shut have shocked the wiper motor causing an internal failure (maybe I'm over analyzing...)?

2000 V70 with about 96K on the ODO.

Thanks,

Tom

1. You gotta pull the center console. Pull the ebrake cover towards the drivers seat, straight out. Pull out the cover in the console storage to reveal 2 8mm screws. Pull up center console.

2. Check you tailgate wiring harness. Located on the drivers side hinge under a black plastic piece.

3. Could be a latch, but who knows.
