V70 T5m R.i.p.

For the record, this is not a joke. Driving home from work tonight and came to a stop behind a Durango. I looked in my rearview mirror and noticed a woman in a mid-sized Saturn approaching fairly quickly but thought, "No, she has time to stop--she won't hit me." I looked away and BAM! BAM! She nailed me in the rear and caused me to slam into the Durango (the V70 and the Durango actually got wedged together). Everything is totally messed up--I have no doubt the car will be totaled. No doubt at all. The front end is destroyed--all the coolant drained out (I turned off the car immediately, before this happened). In the rear the tailgate, bumper, exhaust, and left side quarter are messed up completely. The frame is definitely bent the rear--the left quarter panel pushed forward slightly and under the door (the left rear door doesn't open).

Anyway, I clearly wasn't at fault, but I know I'm still screwed because this was a '98 red-on-charcoal V70 T5M and I will never find another one. Ever. But then, it's just a car, and I need to learn that.

Also, I've watched too many guys on here get screwed by insurance companies, and I really have a mind not to let it happen to me. So I have some plans, and maybe you guys can help me. Most importantly, I need any records you guys can find of 1998 V70 T5M's selling prices. I need to show the adjuster the market value of this car. I will call ipd tomorrow and get the info from their Stage III mule, which I think sold for a lot. I also plan on calling Volvo Cars and seeing if I can get my hands on the official production numbers. I do plan on buying the car back, and depending on what I buy next, I may or may not have parts to sell.

Notice: Preliminary part-out list added to For Sale. Click Here.

I have pictures of the accident, but I'd rather not post many of them just yet. Here's one from last weekend, when the car was finally "done" (thanks Kate to your friend for taking this picture and leaving me with this memory). Again, I'm sorry to have to bring the news that we've lost another V70 T5M. Sucks.

Here's one from tonight--sorry it's so craptacular. From this angle you can't see the creasing in the driver's quarter panel and what it did to the door, just from the rear impact. Look carefully at the front though, namely the hood.

I couldn't believe it when you called me earlier to tell me about this. But in the end it's just a car, and I am glad you are ok.

Let me know at anytime if you need any help. Whether it is needing use the garage and tools, or for me to bring some tools to help you tear things apart.
