what are you getting?

sucks about the loss, but as has been said, cars are replaceable, and looks like it may have already been replaced!

So did you get the money from insurance yet?

The holiday has slowed things down. I think the check is at least a week or two away (but I'm accruing loss-of-use $, so I don't really mind)

Have you got the wag back yet?

Probably early this week, but I don't want to dismantle it until my claim is pretty much wrapped up.

Cant wait to see! :-)

It will be there on the part-out day(s)! (assuming everything goes according to the plan)

Just FYI, my insurance made me an offer today: roughly $6800 and I keep the car. I figured that's not too bad, but then they told me that it actually lost points for being a 5-speed! <_< Not surprising, of course, but I contested and have requested an appraisal. They guarantee it won't go lower than that original offer, so I have nothing to lose. I also wrote a letter and submitted a bunch of documents showing the rarity and the enthusiast support for the T5M, including it's third-place finish at Bozzani, and how long I waited to find one, etc... Don't know if it will help or not, but we'll see.

Wow John, that it is a really good offer. Considering the mileage and age of the car, I'm really surprised your own insurance company actually offered a really fair price for the car with you keeping it, you just don't see insurance companies do it that often. :)

What helped was that the deduction to keep the car was so low. I was expecting $1500-$1800, but it came out to less than $600.

10%?

Insurance companies will settle higher if they are going after someone elses insurance for the other check ;) I think.... :josh:

At least the original offer was higher then mine, will make it easier to get even more

  • 2 weeks later...

So I got the results of the independent appraisal this morning. Initially they were going to cut me a check for $6900 and let me keep the car. Now it is up to $9000!!!!!! Needless to say, I'm happy with that amount :D

wow that is a nice down payment on a 2005 V70R :)
