N00b Question On S80 R Potential

I've been looking at Evo VIIIs and Audi S4s for a while, but I really want something quite a bit more reliable than those. I had to consider the S80 R after trying it out in Forza 2 and seeing that I can pick one up used for 16-22K. From what I've seen, the performance aftermarket on Volvos is limited to one or two vendors--IPD and possibly Magneti Marelli, I couldn't even find the latter's stuff for sale anywhere. Can the S80 R exceed the slalom speed, skidpad G's, and straight-line acceleration of a WRX STI with commonly available parts, and retain its reliability? Are there any examples of this? "Project S80 R" definitely doesn't qualify.

Hmmm ... I think what you're looking at is an S60R ... there is no such thing as an S80R.

Good thing too, as mentioned, the S80 is NOT a good performance car.

The S60 however, with it's active chassis is a much better platform to play with. With regard to aftermarket parts, there is some stuff available, and with a bit of money (read *alot of well spent money) it can be a very potent street machine.

The thing you have to remember tho, is you're comparing a family saloon with a stripped down rally bred racer. You will get close to an STi's performance, sure, might even surpass a stock model's performance straight line and possibly even in the corners. But, you'd have spent as much on your Volvo as you would to get a stock STi anyway. If you're into competition racing... unless you're wanting the uniqueness of the volvo, it's not a great place to start.

... S60R was in Forza, S80 would be a piece of shit thusly they'll never make a S80R.

S60R will take a good deal of work to be comprable to the STI, however the AWD does allow it to come close.

what worthless posts.

Funny..........I was thinking the same thing. I am so damn tired of hearing about how horrible the S80's are! Most of the people making these posts have probably never even been in an S80. My T6 has 75,000 miles on it and has never given me any problems. It's real easy to talk stuff about a car you have never had any contact with. I can think of so many posts where people said what peices of stuff they are, yet the owners have realy good things to say about them. You can buy a piece of stuff in any model, but until you have personal experience with it, sometimes it's better to just keep your mouth shut!

taken from a guy on v70r.com. he was talking about the heico s80

""""The biggest news to share was that I had the opportunity to talk with the VPs of VCNA and asked him if we would see the S80 T6 in production in this form with the high pressure T6, AWD, etc. and was it a spiritual successor to the R series. He said he could not comment on whether or not it would be an S80R, but he did say that many elements in this concept were destined for production, and that we could count on some sort of version "soon.""""""

never rule something out from ford.

here's the link and pics.

you can run a s80 t6 straight line with good numbers. Sti it depends on what one yer talking about. You can get a nice handling s80 with mods, but for most what we are saying is you might as well go with another model. Most cars you can mod to pull skid to a G, but that doesnt mean your flying around a track against other cars with less handling g's.

Damn. I sure ruined this post by being 20 off on the model number. So it's halfway possible, but probably more than $5,000, the approximate price differential between a 2004 of both cars in decent condition around here?

I really didn't mean any disrespect to the S80. They are indeed lovely cars, and I was considering one as a daily driver. (practicality's sake I went with a wagon) From the point of view of a luxuary cruiser, even a GT the S80 is superb.

I however would slate a Bently Continental GT in this particular argument. Weight is a g-killer. If you want a good handling car, get a light one. A light S80, ie stripped out, kinda defeats the entire point of an S80. Not for a purpose built racer.
