Wow. Even the mods have nothing nice to say.

not the brightest bulbs though ...

show me one person other than skywriter who has actually done anything with one of these cars and i'll listen to what they have to suggest, but most of these guys on the board are uneducated kids, with little or no experience in actual problem solving.

in the case of your question having an "answer" ... anyone who claims to have said "answer" is displaying nothing more than ignorance to the scope of the question.

very few have had any real experience with modifying these cars, and routine maintenance just does not count, sorry but technicians don't qualify as experts insofar as this issue is concerned.

when i was building my t6 motor i got nothing of any value from anyone here on the board other than skywriter, in fact i specifically got a whole lot of innacurate info concerning specs on the motor ... just because someone is arrogant does not mean they are an authority on a subject.

i can't tell you how frustrating it was when idiots on this board insisted that my 1.5mm t6 top rings were actually 1.7mm like other whiteblocks, or how many morons asserted that the t6 came with 13c's, and a t3 flange, or some other bull, oh yeah, and the best one was the whole rod thing, i wanted to know if the t6 motor of mine had the same skinny rods as the rest of the whiteblocks (rn motor not included, these have somewhat beefier rods) and everyone answered with a resounding YES ... so i built my motor up with h-beams and such, good to do anyways, but .... turns out the stock ones are not the same as all those 850, and v70 whiteblock motors have, no this motor has the same big ones as the rn motor has ... another bit of time and money misspent because i made the error of actually believing that these retards were posting responses based on actual experience ... had i known i would have not spent all the time and money rebuilding the block and simply done the headwork and dropped it in ... would have been quicker and maybe not AS thorough, but it'd have gotten done 3 months sooner and $2400 cheaper with better rods than you'll find in an 850 turbo motor.

just build up your stuff if you are so inclined and post your results, you'll be one of only a couple of guys that has done it so it'll not be plug'n play but if you are up to the task then give it a try.

I know in autocross, S60R and V70Rs dominate in D stock...same goes for modified classes too...they're very capable cars, mostly because of their AWD system. there is definitely the potential out there for an S60R to beat the thoroughbreds. I also like the exclusivity - autocross and rallycross are overrun with subarus and evos, show up in a volvo and you get a lot of attention, especially if your driving is good. I did my first rallycross the other day in my 850 just for $hits and giggles, a subaru driver on the detroit SCCA forum dared me to come out to an event. anyway, I got second place! I couldn't believe it.

I'd say go for it, do somethign different.

S60R vs. M5

The S80 sucks, I'm sorry. I work on these things all day long and I see more crappy S80's than anything else.

you're a grease monkey; OF COURSE you see the crappy ones. the good ones are on the road. my mechanic sees more 850s than anything else, so what? a sample of TWO is hardly a statistically significant sample.

now if a real degreed automotive engineer with 10 years experience did an analysis then that would be something. this is just anonymous internet crap talk. like THAT has ever been proven authoritative.

all the techs at the dealership i worked on hated the s80, especially the 99-2000 ones

it's a mere fact those cars are crap

i was always scared whenever i had to drive one

A buddy of mine has been trying to find a NICE 850 for almost a year now. He has just about given up because there are no nice 850's. You wouldn't believe how many have significant engine problems. And, I won't mention how every single one he looked at had an interior that in my opinion hasn't held up for stuff. My piont here is, just because my buddy hasn't been able to find a nice 850 without siginificant problems, doesn't mean I come on the board and tell everybody that their 850's are stuff! Is it really so hard to get your opinion across, that all you can do is talk crap?

Your tech guy was scared of driving an S80? That is probably a different issue than the car's quality. I've had my 2.9L S80 for almost a year now, and it's been nothing but perfect for me. I've had no problems with it. If the car was taken care of, it will be great. My only real issue is that my 2.9L (expectedly) is not fast, but thats why there is a T6 option. You didn't think about the fact that your at a garage where people bring their cars to be fixed?

In the end, they're still Vovlo's and i think they deserve a little more respect around here. The people on these forums are just looked for the fastest cars. The S80 wasn't designed for that, its a GT car, a luxury executive sedan.

Couldn't have said it better myself. When I first joined this forum I posted pics of my V40 and was right away criticised for it "not being a real Volvo". It seems to me that (at least on this forum) if it's not an 850 or an S60 it's crap.

cant forget if its not an S70 its crap, everyone talks trash about the S80 T6, but its quick, comfortable and still a damn safe Volvo with LEGROOM, which a lot of other volvos cant say about their backseat...

they need more respect than they're currently getting, they are still made by Volvo now aren't they?

Wow....you have got to be a serious dumbass idiot if you dumped all that money into your motor solely based on information from a forum board. :monkey:

You can't blame anyone other than yourself for the time and money you spent because you weren't smart enough to do the proper planning and due diligence before attempting something unknown to you.

well you got one thing right, you do have to be a dumbass to believe anything anyone says on this board of idiots.

that aside Kildea is smarter than you will ever be.

yet another S80 thread gone bad thanks to boobs.

sorry JVC you won't get it here. swedespeed is a better community, and turboricks has smarter people. there are some cool people here. but the majority are lamers on anything but the S70 or 850, with an odd S60 thrown in for chuck.

actually i take that back, there are a lot of nice people, just the bad ones make themselves much more visible.

He sure sounds really smart :monkey: He blames his wasted money and time for the motor, solely because of information he got from people on this board. Anyone who ventures into a motor build with limited knowledge and doesn't do the proper planning by gaining information from MULTIPLE sources, is surely the idiot.

Why in the world would you put time and money into a motor based only on information from a forum, let alone a forum known primarily for 850 and 70-series cars?
