DouginDenver
On my 2000 S40, every once in a while - like maybe once every 50 starts - the brake light on the dash is lit at startup, and stays on. Maybe two or three starts later it goes out and stays out for the next 50 starts until the the cycle repeats. Zero other symptoms of any kind. No other codes triggered, no soft or hard pedal, no nothing. What as the most likely cause of such an infrequent thing?
Kibim
It's not particularly cold on these 1 in 50 starts? The light usually indicates pad wear. Checked your pads lately?

Checked your pads lately? No, not particularly cold. All temps. Pad wear ? I did not know there was a pad wear sensor except for the old fashioned kind - a scraping noise. Where are these senesors located and how do they work?

The float - which looks kinda like a miniature of the Space Needle in Seattle - is made of some weird porous plastic that actaully becomes saturated with brake fluid and so was no longer very bouyant.
