Ok peeps whaddup, Im mulling over a few options to go back to school and either switch industries as far as what I already do, GIS/mapping, or get out all together and start over basically but I'm running into a few forks in the road : Either a Certificate Program in AutoCAD2007 and eventually become an architect $1995 and roughly 150 course hours, go for the CompTIA LINUX/LPI Level I Cert. Program which is about $2195 and 300 course hours, or see if I can get my GIS Certificate credits to carry over to an accredited university as an Associate's degree and take courses through that school to eventually get a real Bachelor's degree but that would take the most time and I'd have to take the courses that aren't real meaningful to me like English 101 and so on. There's also another program through the Art Institute of Pittsburg Online has a residential Planning Diploma but it's like $1300 a course, 14 courses and I'd have to get financial aid, cool if I don't have to pay it back, and no loans cause Im already a homeowner and don't want another bill at the moment... Discuss amongst yourselves.....

garduates??? hmmm... j/p but i'm a junior in mechanical engineering technology... don't know if you've ever looked into that degree... right now i'm halfway through my junior year and some of my classes include autocad, physics, manufacturing methods, visual basic... etc. but the degree i'm working towards right now is for a bachelor's degree... but i know that an associates is available... i'm attending class at k-state... and i know it's available at other schools... but anyways... just a thought maybe you can check it out...

You said it best, you get what you pay for. If you want to work in a market where there is no substantial growth, an income ceiling, and you have little chance to get ahead then take one of the basic certificate courses. The four year degree will give you more oppurtunities later in life to make more money. You have a chance to take upperlevel positions instead of being someone's minion. Yes, you might have to take English 101, but that should be an easy A, right? Four year college degrees basically prove nothing more than you can follow directions and are capable of understanding simple concepts. I vote 4 year school.

And in the end its just a peice of paper.

I am right now wasting my time and money for a Ass. in Mech Engineering

the best part everythign there teaching I will never use , since Mech Enginering pertty much has nothing to do with HVAC but its the one you need to be a HVAC Engineer

Ya damn right. I've been going psycho the last few weeks with my exotic beer tastings... Beer going pretty well. Have Chimay Bleu up for tasting tonight. And the Chimay Rogue(Red) is waiting right next to it for tomorrow night.

Knowing a bit about all of the things you mentioned....

Transfer to an institution where you can put your GIS work to good use. Look for a geography program, or maybe environmental science with a GIS/Geography focus. GIS analyst jobs aren't too hard to come by out of college and they will definitely pay the bill while you decide what you want to further pursue in the future.

Just remember this much, there is no such thing as a free lunch, and there is no such thing as an easy road to a million. If you are not innovating in your field, you will not make LOTS of money. You can get a good paying job with any of the different options you listed. Ultimately, it's about what will get you out of bed everyday. Because it doesn't really matter if you're making 10-20k more a year if you hate your job/life.
