Sandro Seminara
Hi I just got an air compressor (been wanting one for 10 years now) and was wondering about purchasing an impact wrench. I was looking at one at Home Depot that had 400lbs of torque. Is that enough? They have 600lbs of torque, but are pretty expensive. Those who have impact wrenches what did you go with? Geevs
I have an electric impact wrench rated for 250 ft/lbs and it has managed to remove the 36mm axle nut - one of the hardest nut to remove on the car. Cost $50.

Or.... wait for it...wait for it.....GEt a Command 7000ft/lb with no need for air or electricity.
white96850turbo
We have both Chicago Pneumatic and Snap-on impact wrenches at school, and I have to say the Chicago Pneumatic is much more powerful, if that’s what you’re looking for..... RussB
The Ingersol-Rand 231 is a good tool, and can be had for around $120. I also have a mongo Dewalt electric. It does the job.The thing about air tools is that they require a steady air supply. Often a good (AIR) impact driver can use up all the available air, and that compromises the tools effectivness. r850glt
Home Depot has a nice electric Dewalt, that will take care of most maintenance items on your car around $150-$175. Snap on has a great cordless CDR 3850 for Around $350-$450.
Che'_Moderator
Electric Whatever you get make sure it has at the least 600. 600 will get most common jobs down without overly stressing the tool. My vote is still swinch. You can throw it in the car and never have to call fleet service for anything.
