NoodleKnight
I have the pin-out diagram; but after reading through pages of search and stickies, I have a headache and I figured I might as well make another post about a topic already covered a million times. I don't want to buy one, I want to make my own. I don't care if I can control the mp3 player from my stereo; I just want to be able to fake that a CD changer is there and the HU (SC-816? whatever comes stock in an 850R) will take audio input from whatever is coming through that adapter I make. There's 6 pins, 2 right channel, 2 left channel, 1 12V? and 1 Ground?I know where the 2 left and right channels should be connected to; but what do I do with the 12V and ground? How do I fake that a CD changer is present?
JVC
put in a 12v power source and then ground it? do what it is supposed to have, but then just have the actual audio input from the mp3 player.

The 12V pin is looking for 12V? And the Ground pin should just be connected to some ground?
BEJinFBK
It would sure be easier that way. But it's not.The Alpine made changers "talk" with the HU.They communicate digitally over a two wire bus.You have:PowerGroundAccessoryBus Bus Ground Right Signal Signal Ground Left SignalChassis GroundUnless you have some electronics chops, start shopping for an adapter...Even if you do, it's just easier and cheaper to plug and play. NoodleKnight
Well that's interesting. I guess I was looking at the wrong plug, my bad.
BEJinFBK
Well that's interesting. I guess I was looking at the wrong plug, my bad.At least this system is pretty close to regular. The newer ones just get worse!(There are lots of factory stereos out there that are a REAL pain to deal with.)I've seen two kinds of adapter so far. One just gives you a line in, they're not too expensive. The spendier one gives you limited iPod control at the same time. Check around.
