Thinking About Buying A C70

So, i've had my 1999 Volvo S80 for about 9 months now, its been great, no real problems. The only issue is that it is just really slow. (2.9L) 0-60 in about 8.5seconds at best.

So i was thinking about selling it and looking into something a bit faster. My S80 is worth about $6K-7K (108K), and i wanted a C70 around that price 6K-10K.

I love the look of the C70 coupe (not convertible) and it has a pretty hefty 240HP and quoted 0-60 time of about 6.2seconds. I would like a manual but they seem really hard to find. Are there any suggestions you guys could give me? I'm only 17 so i don't have deep pockets, but i really want to show off what a real volvo can do so everyone doesn't tell me how slow my Volvo is. The 850/S70 are nice, but the C70 just looks fantastic to me. And a simple an easy ECu upgrade and maybe a few other things, it can be a realy fast car, plenty to beat most cars on the road.

If i got one with 100K/120K+ miles on it, are there any foreseen problems?

Thanks a lot!

If the car was well taken care of by the previous owner and you do a stage 0, then everything should be peachy.

Lucky for me, I found the dealer that had been servicing my car before I bought it so I got a full service record that showed the car had been consistently taken care of.

manual coupes are a lot of fun but... with a 17 year old driving it something is bound to not last very long. i just bought new tires for example and they stick to the road a little better than the worn p zero tires that were on it. when the torque kicks in in second gear they light right up. its a quick car. it has been moderately altered and its a kick to drive. you might find it hard to insure and they are a bit spendy when you start to play hard with them. i dunno - i dont think the car would last long unless you are gentle with it. try to find one at a dealer and take it for a test drive - you will get the idea even if its an automatic... if you can find one with all the records and it was well cared for it wont matter a whole lot how many miles are on it...

Trust me, i'm a careful and very good driver. I would consider an automatic, but it's just so boring, My S80 is so comfortable, and a nice cruiser, i just want to have a little pride, since the C70 would be the fastest car at my high school. (you guys know, its a guy thing.)

Mine is an automatic and it's still fun. Switch to "sport" mode and a slight tap on the gas kicks down a gear and off you go. The flat torque curve makes allllll the difference :D

Besides, I doubt the 1 or 2 tenths of a second loss on the 0-60 is going to kill you. From a standstill it can be a bit slow (unless you brake torque), but if you're rolling already the acceleration is nuts.

292 HP 340 TQ

3" Downpipe

3" Race-cat

2.5" Dual Outlet Cat-Back

RICA Stage II Software

Took a while, especailly cause I was looking for a specific colour combination. Didn't really want a sunroof either. Took like a year.

C70s are like the S80s and are known to have a few more problems than the typical Volvo. Make sure the windows go up and down well...a busted regulator is expensive and a PITA. C70s seem to suffer from poor interior fit and finish. Other than that the coupes are pretty trouble free just check for the usual volvo stuff you would on a S70. Watch craigs list they pop up from time to time on there at a good price, same with Ebay.

Yea, the interior suffers from a few quirky noises (slight squeeks and a rattle from the sunroof if you have one) when driving on a crappy road and without the stereo blasting your head off. The seats are a bit easy to screw up if you fold them forward too hard (I've done this twice). The engine is rock solid though. Basically any problems you might encounter will just be some annoyances with the interior or doors, nothing disasterous though.
