Thinking About Buying A C70

Thanks for all the advice. What would be the best way to sell my S80? I've never sold a car before on craigslist or anything like that, how long does it usually take on average. It seems the older S80's are getting more popular these days, i see them all the time around where i live.

If you guys wouldn't mind, could one of you post some pictures of the interior, detailed ones. Thats the one great thing with the S80, the interior is awesome, and very well laid out.

Well like I said the window regulators get PRICEY and you will be lucky to find a shop that even wants to touch it. They are hard to adjust properly so there are no leaks/wind noise and no one is very good at them because there are not a ton of C70s around. So word to the wise, if you buy one leave the windows up as much as possible.

You're looking for a performance car? If I were in your shoes I'd find a more suitable platfrom - something that starts you higher up. I don't find the C70 to be remotely close to a sports car, it's target audience I don't think was ever the performance enthusiast. Wasn't their ideal demographic 35-45 year old? You can be quick in a straight line all you want but in the end it's the curves that have the longest lasting fun factor, going straight for 6 seconds at WOT is woo hoo for only so long. (Until you feel like you got robbed each time you fill up your tank)

Save up some more dough and buy a AP1 S2k. I get my C70 in about a week, Gonna keep it for maybe a year and jump ship to an Evo/E36 M3/S2K. Probably keep it as a DD when I think about it actually.

But if you are looking at practicallity then that's another issue. The C70 is a perfect DD and cruiser - Quick - Comfortable - Sexy.

BTW: Once I pick up my car in about 5 days I will do a extensive review here - might help out any potential buyers to get a owners opinion on the car.

i finally broke down and crammed folded up napkins in my sunroof to dampen the rattle. i need to look more closely at my xc to see what is different because it doesnt ratlte at all. now if i can just find the rattle in the passenger door... the interior of my coupe is the same as the xc except the color only there is an extra petal and i get to shift it by hand a lot. all i need to do is get the heated seat in the coupe fixed and it will feel just the same even when its cold outside. if i could just quit trying to turn on the rear window wiper, remember to shift into 5th after i get on the freeway... i get a lot of puzzled looks from people when i drive the coupe because the back end is the the only way to easily tell what it is. now that i have my funky blue wheels people that might want to try to race me to cut me off think twice or more and give up.

i came up on a kid working on a sporty VW the other day. he pulled his head out from under the hood as i drove by and watched me roll up his street. as i looked in my mirror he was out in the road trying to figure out what he had just seen driving by. i laughed. i get a lot of different responses.

I'll never buy a Japaneses car. I'm Volvo for Life. I still want it to be a cruiser. And the Honda S2000 (which i guess you are refereeing to) is a show off car. Beating unsuspecting people in a drag with a Volvo is priceless. I also think Volvo makes the best looking cars. The S2000 is to much of a ricer car, and one of my friends is getting one soon.

All those cars you mentioned are for people who need their cars to show off. Volvos are for people who don't need their cars to show off because they aren't insecure about them selfs.

Wow...

I didn't know people were biased towards cars so bad. Thanks for imposing your beliefs on the universe, no offense but you're obviously talking out your jerk. Drive a S2k (Not in a straight line) and if there isn't a permenant smile from ear to ear on your face then you need psychiatric help.

I figured people put their one sided nonsense aside in todays car market - no japanese cars? What the hell do those cars have to do with showing off? You are 17 correct? Since when does a 17 year old take a Volvo over an S2k!? Maybe a money concious/practical one who has other priorities yes, but in terms of raw driving experience you are crazy.

I don't know if you realize what you said, but beating people unsuspectingly in a Volvo is as big a "Show Off" move as taking higher displacement cars with the S2000's NA 4 banger. You are working against yourself - You want a sleeper there are cars that fit that role MUCH better then a Volvo (Considering the average enthusiast KNOWS they are boosted) I still don't understand how all those cars are for show offs? Makes no sense to me, you've got a lot of learning to do. I guess it's just two different perspectives, here in Cali driving the S2k with top down 90% of the year is a blast, not even about racing anybody. It's the fun factor and experience. You've been watching to much Fast and Furious.

All you are doing is stereotyping - the same way people from an outside perspective look at Volvo's as "Old People" cars. And calling one of the best engineered roadsters on the planet a ricer car reinforces your lack of knowledge. Yes the cars I mentioned and Volvo's have 2 different audiences and by the sounds of it you fit into the more sedate driver who puts emphasis (200HP = More then 190HP - Hence my Balls are bigger) in straight line speed, You'll get past that sooner or later. So I guess "Volvo 4 Life" is appropriate.

I'm not gonna argue with you about the cars - but my advice to you is: You are young and have plenty of time to find yourself a ride to accomodate your needs, no need to reach for that dream ride yet.

Grab a Van while you're at it actually - It's less Ricey then an Evo and fits the Sleeper Role

I have never been so underimpressed by a car as I was by the 3 Honda S2000s I've driven. I honestly would rather drive my '94 850 turbo than that car. Especially when you consider the cost ratio of the two.

hmmm...a van does sound like a good idea. Chrysler made a turbo minivan that is notorious for hitting 12s with bolt ons. lol just giving you a hard time.

Anyways I forgot to mention something earlier, C70s were built at the Pininfarina Sverige AB plant in Uddevalla, Sweden which is owned by both Volvo and Pininfarina and they had a lot more people assembling them than machines. In my personal opinion this is why the fit and finish seems to suffer on the C70s and why they have a few odd quirks that the S/V70s do not have.

Sorry but a C70 does not bring to mind "old people car". Everybody that has seen mine stares at it for the longest time trying to figure out what the hell it is, and when I tell them they still don't believe me.

Obviously it isn't a sports car, but given speed limits, cops, and horrible roads, it doesn't really matter.

Oh and don't forget the seats! They are by far the most comfortable I have ever sat in. Every time I give someone a ride, they refuse to get out of the car because the seats are so good.

It is truly sad to see younger people limit themselves to the flurry of great cars and manufacturers available by thinking "Volvo for Life". Volvos are great DD cars and look nice, but they are in no way the greatest car available. Unless the "unspecting people" will be stock Honda Civics, you will spend more money modding the performance of the car just to attempt to beat most of the nicer cars your young mind thinks you can beat with a Volvo.

You also should consider your own contradictions. By beating unsuspecting people in a drag with your Volvo, is along the same need to show off as with someone driving an S2K.

It would be for myself to beat someone with a C70. I say one thing and everyone know things that all i sit around and drag race people and think about drag racing, and that i'm speedracer. I love just to drive, and take a nice scenic route, and go through the twisties. But, i think most of my words were taken the wrong way. Doesn't mean i won't look at any other cars. I respect other cars, and i'm an enthusiast for all cars.

The crumple zones on an S2000 are you.

Anyway, this thread has gone way off topic and i think it should be closed, because i've got all the info i need.

I got what you are saying and am on the same page. I think we all agree that we own volvos because we enjoy being just slightly different.

Personally if you want to talk speed vs money forget the imports period and buy domest...serious if you want to win a drag race for low money buy a 5.0 mustang and be done with it.
