Peolple Suck, Cowardly Act In The Dark,

Pops Racer

Recommended Posts

Just saving my money for gadgets and future repairs on my 1995 855. Then some ball-less little prick does this to my car...

VOLVOrearwindow004.jpg

If you look closely you can see the point of impact is dead canter of the glass. Probably an auto punch or a B-B. Looks more like a punch to me, no BB or spalling from glass, just complete shatterization!

I saw this when I went to walk the dog. I could not believe my eyes. Called Police, they came, usual response, prolly can't do shit about it, won't catch bitch-punk that did it, call ya if we hear anything...Now the big question-How do I fix this? New tailgate or does glass get replaced? Glass is completely gone, tempered don't you know, might as well be sand. No sympatyh, it's just a car and nobody got hurt. Cops said another car near by also got hit lik mine, so at least it aint some jealous kid in a Honda picking me out!!  Gotta laugh or I'm gonna cry.

One more just to make sure.

Ouch. Same thing happened to my mom's mercedes, except we caught that stupid kid.

You can just get the glass replaced; although lately I've been noticing 850's using the later V70 rear window replaceements, with the outlines for the 3rd brake light at the top, rather than the bottom. I wonder if they ran out.

What happens with the washer nozzle and the wiper shaft? $500 bucks, half a CJ DP. I was having such a good weekend too.

I imagine the glass guy will handle that stuff, pull the arm off and the rubber o ring, install new glass, reinstall parts.

CJ makes a killer down pipe but if you're on a budget talk with thelostart of about getting him to make you one.

Don't forget to get a tune once you have the DP.

I'm guessing you don't have Glass Coverage on your Insurance?

Finding out this is about a $500 expense, (Which is the same it cost for a 1976 Cadillac Coupe Deville Windshield in 1999, which is the reaso i always carry Glass coverage) now I'm Glad I carry Glass on All my Cars.

I actually have a extra tailgait but its off a v70 with good glass if your intrested , shipping will be expensive

I suppose thats a direct fit? How much of a V70 is swappable for crying out loud! Thank you so much for the offer. I was thinking about replacing tailgate also. I found a red one from an R in Ohio with a spoiler on it for $500. Glass alone is ~$475. I'm prolly going to paint in spring so I can be flexible. Shipping is probably half that. Got quote from $750 -$1200 for glass and install. If I had the correct adhesive it does not look too hard to replace.

yes it is a direct fit minus the spot for the rear tailight is in the wrong spot.

but what you could do and would be a first is some how install the LED in that spot.

the glass is cheap since I am just going to thow it away but again shipping :(

Open to all suggestions, thanks for the input. I'll shoot him a PM. I have already cleaned off 99% of broken glass, removed wiper arm and O-ring, and washer nozzle. All that is left is a bead of adhesive and the glass immediately stuck to it. The seal is tuff, won't cut easy with a razor knife. Heat may be needed to remove it. Also 2 leads for defroster. I should do another pictorial on how to replace rear glass.

I probably would have paid more than $500 bucks in extra premiums for that coverage. If I can get OEM glass from dealer, like Boston Volvo, it might not be so bad. I am talking to my ins. agent tomorrow, and I'll get the scoop on my coverage, maybe it will fall under home owners because it happened in my driveway. for a goof I'll ask about premium difference with full glass. Took me 2 hours to clean all shards from DW , boot, my tool bag in back and the glass that fell into tho tailgate panel. I had to pop the lower panel and fish around for pieces. Got like a hand-full out. That would have been an interesting rattle hunt in the future. Winter is here, rain in the forecast so I also plastic bagged the opening. Thank goodness for duct tape.
