Hello,

This is my first time posting a question to a forum. I appologize in advance for any errors. Im mechanicaly savy, work for a large software company, and have an Electronic Engineering degree. I understand most mechanical turms as they relate to basic mechanics.

I recently purchased a used 1999 volvo s80 t6 for use as a second car. The car drives very well and has a clean history confirmed by carfax report. I am frotunate enough to have all the service reciepts from the previous owners and the car was well maintained and met all its servcie dates.

The current problem Im experiencing is "service tranmission urgent" message with an orange triangle. and when pulling the codes I see the following below

99.99999999 % of the time you will end up replacing the transmission that was the first year of the s80 and the t6 has the gm tranny in it in the past 5 weeks i have replaced 5 gm transmissions they are horrible im sorry no one told you not to buy that car

I'm not gonna jump the gun and say you need a tranny and that they are horrible as the Gm cars that have them don't seem to have the same issues that the 80 series does? IMO half of the problem is in the programming and not the trans itself. It's only gonna do what it's told to do? Also that code you have is for a lost speed sensor input signal. Do you have an ABS light on or intermittently on as well? If so I would take a shot and say perhaps it may need an ABS module. $150/200 is a lot cheaper than a trans. However I'm not experiencing your symptoms so it's just a good guess. But I'm certainly not gonna condemn the trans for just a speed sensor code???

;)
